? about Type I
Question: Hi I do not get coldsores on my mouth, so I know nothing about it.... if a person has gotten a cold sore, does that mean it is herpes? Are there ANY other kinds of coldsores that can develop that aren't herpes???? Answer: I think you can get fever blisters, which aren't herpes. But i'm not sure. Answer: Coldsores or fever blisters, as some people call them, are caused by the herpes simplex virus. They can be from either hsv1 or hsv2 but most commonly they are from hsv1. They are transmitted by skin to skin contact and can be infections of either the mouth or the genitals and are frequently transmitted to the genitals through oral sex practices. You can also pass them to a partner through kissing. A person who has coldsores has herpes. Answer: thank you. that is what i thought: a person who has coldsores has herpes...... I am dating a guy who has gotten one on the mouth.... I don't (I have genital type II). I am a bit worried now that he will give them to me on the mouth through kissing..... Answer: Some reports I have read have said that once you have developed antibodies against either strand of herpes simplex virus that this affords you some protection from re-infection and at the least would suppress outbreaks if you were re-infected. I don't know if this makes me more or less comfortable. It does tell me that our immune systems are amazing and without them we would be in a seriously bad position.
