First outbreak need help

Question:
Hi. I was married to a man with herpes for 7 years. He'd had one outbreak and never any recurrances. I didn't get it from him. However, recently I had a rub from my clothes which I though might be the recurrance of a problem from when I gave birth. Surprise it was Herpes. There was only on reasonably small sore.

Did anyone have an initial outbreak this mild? To tell the truth, if it hadn't been in the same place as my prior problem, I'd have never gone to the doctor or though twice about it.

I am hoping to start a new relationship soon so I've elected to take valtrex for the first 6 months to a year to protect my partner because the NIH found that this time is when a person has the most asymptomatic shedding.

Mostly I want to know if I can hope to be lucky like my husband was and not have recurrances or could the next one be a full blown disaster?

Answer:
. .

Answer:
My first one was SO painful and nasty. After that, I had maybe 3 more relatively minor ones within about 5 months. Now that it has been a year, I have had very little activity in that area. I think you were lucky, and they will continue to be mild for you. If you are taking Valtrex or whatever, it will probably suppress any OBs anyway. Now that you are aware of the warning signs you can probably stop anything before it gets that bad. Whenever I feel *tingly* I start to take my medication (Acyclovir) until it goes away, and I haven't had any actual sores or pain in months.

On another note, you may have had it for a while and not known it before that initial ob. You could be one of the people who don't show signs.
