I don't know if it is an outbreak...

Question:
Hey
This is my situation. I had these lesions on my vagina, and at first thought it was a REALLY bad yeast infection since it really flared up once I started taking these antibiotics. So I went to the doctor and she took a boo and she said she was most certain they were herpes. She took a swab of one of the sores, and as soon as she did that, it hurt to pee, and she even told me that it would, making me believe that she infact got a good swab of whatever it was. ANYWAYS, after what seemed like the longest wait of my life, the tests came back negative. She then proceeded to tell me that to get a good swab, she would have had to have gotten some fluid, however she gave me the impression that she did get a good swab when she first saw me. So I don't know if I really have it or not. I've had other tests done for other infections and nothing has come up. Itching continued and I went back believing that I was having an outbreak and she asked me what pill I was on. So she's moved me down to a different estrogen level...
Okay so now I'm getting to the point. What the hell do I have? I think I'm getting an outbreak, but it's on my buttocks, and they really do look like pimples. I can feel them, they are bumpy, but one of them has a slight bit of soreness, almost unnoticeable...but because I'm so freaked out, I notice it. I know I should go to a doctor, but they don't seem to be doing me any good. It's a little bit itchy, and their are quite a few of these pimples, which do not hurt at all. I don't know if it's a rash or not. Has anyone ever had anything similar? How common is it to get a false negative when actual lesions have been swabbed? Does the doctor still have to tell me there is a possibility that it could be herpes even though the test came back negative? (She even said that if it's HSV 2, then it will come back, but if it is HSV 1, it won't. Which makes me very confused. And if I get a blood test, HSV 1 will show up anyways because I get coldsores). Do you think I'm overreacting to these bumps?? I'm soooo confused. Thank you so much for your time, and thank you for such an awsome message forum! Please answer.
Cheers

Answer:
I'm new to this, but I will share what my nurse told me.

My symptoms are similar to yours (Extreme itchyness, and PAIN while urinating.) I also have tiny sores on the inside of my labia.

I went to the local planned parenthood, and the nurse did a visual assessment and said I have herpes. She also did a culture (hurt like HELL) and said lab results may come up negative even if I have H.

She said if the lab results are negative, I need to come back in a month for a blood test.

So, my suggestion for you would be to discuss this with your doc. If he/she doesn't concur with what my nurse said--you may want to get a second opinion.

Good luck.
