Welcome to www.thanktoday.com !!!

hmm.

Question:
Apparently my first topic was deleted.

I posted a question regarding my first OB and new diagnosis. AND, then - loe and behold - my topic was removed.

I mainly wanted to know how to handle the discomfort.

NO ONE answered so I found answers on my own. I checked out this forum and called my nurse.

1. The forum suggests to use something cold to help with the pain. I wrapped "an ice pack" in a towel, and sat on it.
2. My nurse prescribed Lidocaine to numb the area.
3. When I googled Lidocaine, I came across a web-page that suggested Benadryl to take care of the itch.
4. To deal with the pain while urinating - The nurse suggested I sit in the tub in a little water whilie urinating.

** I found the first three suggestions helpful, and #4 did NOTHING for me.**

So, if anyone has any suggestions how to ease the pain during urination please post.

OR - don't reply, and boot me and my post off the forum again.

Answer:
EDIT:

#4 does work. I found it most helpful to make sure the water was deep enough, and to do my best to keep the area affected by the OB away from the stream.

Well - I guess I'll have to see how my first day of work goes tomorrow. I called in sick Mon, Tues... and am going to try to go in Wed.

Anyone have any words of wisdom for dealing with work during an OB?

Answer:
I have just gotten through my first OB and worked throught he whole thing. It was probably one of the hardest things I have ever done. I work and office job so I am sitting a lot but I do have to get up and walk around a lot during the day. I found it harder to walk around after sitting for long periods of time, so I made sure I got up and walked a bit a few times an hour. A few people that I am close to asked if I was sick or something because I didn't look good and I was walking a bit funny. I just told them I had a UTI and I would be good in a few days.

I guess you just have to find a way that is most comfortable for you. Good luck....it does get better!

Answer:
I've used a product called Releeve, which I believe you can purchase at Walgreen's. Also, it's expensive, but a product called Chorophor will take care of the pain and itching within a very short time. It heals it up too. I just posted on treatment zone about a product called Virox that I have had excellent luck with. You might want to check their website, or another website is www.painbreak.com. (I'm pretty sure that's the site)

Answer:
THANK you both for your response.

I've been surfing the net, and my favorite sites have "personal stories."

Jess... How long was you first OB? I believe mine started Thurs, and it's now Wed.

I called off work again today. I work in the service industry where I would not have any privacy. I prefer to deal with this alone at home.

I'm hopeful - for the first time - this week. After a quick bath and shower, I'm having very little pain. I did wake up sore, though.

How does is feel when an OB is close to ending? I'm on Acyclovir (for 6 doses) and the nurse said it would take 2-3 days (6 - 9 doses) to see results.

Answer:
My first OB started on Sat and has just ended yesterday (wed) so that was 12 days long. But I didn't start taking my acyclovir until last wed. So the acyclovir took a week to clear mine up. I did start feeling much better about 3-4 days after taking it, but was still in some discomfort.
Work was very hard for me and I probably should have called off a couple days but I am very stubborn about that. It is best to do what you feel comfortable with. Hopefully you will be feeling better soon and will be able to handle going back to work. I know how hard it is and I wish you all the luck in the world. Just take it day by day!! :)
