Feel like I have cancer? Normal for H?
Question: Hi everyone :o , Please respond to my post. I didn't get a single response to my last one and need your views. I have a number of recurring symptoms that seem to directly relate to HSV 1, but it still hasn't been confirmed after 2 years. At the time I noticed a sore in the guy's pubic hair I was with after protected sex, including oral. According to the blood tests (A Western Blot and an EIA) I have no antibodies to either HSV 1 or 2. All other tests for HIV, syphillis, chlamydia, gonnoreah, HPV, Hep A, B, C, mono, lupus, grave's disease and a whole range of other diseases have been negative. My blood count is fine, liver function, thyroid, protein and xrays/ultrasounds show my chest and abdomen are fine. Yes, I've had a lot of tests :!: Since I was with him I had the flu and a blister appeared genitally. Over the past 2 years I've had almost continuous episodes even on anti virals. Even though I don't get blisters, they seem very severe and I'm so sick I can't work, socialise or do anything. I get constant nausea for about 3 or 4 days, distended stomach, major upper back pain, discharge, pimples on my butt (had a few swabbed early and nothing) and itchiness etc. :?: My question is the nausea and back pain is so bad I feel like I have cancer. Does anyone else feel like this during a recurrence? I find it hard to believe HSV 1 can be that bad sometimes. And no, I've never had cancer but it's the only way I can describe it. Also, does anyone know how long it takes antivirals (Valtrex - 500 mg twice a day) to work? I know they don't work for everyone. Thanks heaps. Laney. Answer: You say that you tested Negative for both HSV-1 and HSV-2 and that you even did a swab test. I think it is safe to say that you probably don't have herpes. I don't take any medicine so I am not sure how long it takes for Valtrex to work; I work out and eat healthy and that seems to keep OB's at bay and since I am abstinent  I don't worry about asymptomatic shedding. Your symptoms sound absolutely horrible and I wish I could give you more help, and I really hope that you do find out what is going on! Answer: Hi Babelfish, What does that mean by the way? Thanks for responding! When I say I tested negative. The Western Blot was inconclusive for HSV 1 and negative for HSV 2. Since then 2 EIA tests (one only a few days ago) have been negative for both HSV 1 and 2. I didn't have the genital blister swabbed initially, but I did have the sores on my butt swabbed. I don't know what to think and I don't know what to tell future partners. I'm in limbo. One doctor based on my symptoms said I definitely had it (I get it about 5 days before my period and when I've been in the sun too long). Another gyno said I didn't have it about 6 times! and a specialist has said you can lose HSV 1 antibodies 2 - 5 years later. I've also read that 1% of people don't make enough antibodies. I'm very sure it's not HSV 2. Do you know of anyone that has had a positive swab, but doesn't show any antibodies? Also, just curious because a few of you guys on here say that you are abstinent. Do you mean abstinent until you find the right person or simply abstinent for the rest of your life? Thanks, Laney. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
