I was diagnosed yesterday.... and I'm scared
Question: I'm 19, engaged, hoping to start a family when I graduate college in 2 years... but now I'm so afraid. I had no idea that I had the virus, I thought that I had just some normal tingly feeling... but then it got so intense that I absolutley under no circumstances could urinate. I went 3 days without using the bathroom, I tried the shower, the tub, everything.. no luck. Well, I went to the doctor, and of course my gynocologist was off that day, so I had to go to some man that I've never seen before and tell him that "I'm afraid I have something going on down there." I was extremely embarassed, and of course I was 15 min. late for my appt. and the doctor had a conference in 10 minutes so it was a quick look and a "yeah you have herpes, here's a prescription" and sent me on my way... no time for questions no time for anything. I got in my car and broke in to tears. It's the stigma, the you're a whore, or dirty for having an STD. When in actuality, most people aren't... I'm just scared, and feeling rather alone at the moment. I told my fiance, and he's right here with me, he said "Baby, we're in this together." Which was wonderful, but I'm still so shocked. I found out that both my mother and my father also have herpes, and I don't know if there is any possibility that I could've contracted the virus from either of them. He's pretty sure that's how it happened, but so far the evidence seems to point in another direction. I was raped when I was 15, and my guess is that's where it came from, but some places I've read that the virus can go un-detected for years, then others say from 3 days to 2 weeks.... I just don't know!! I'm so confused, and I hope to find some support here among friends  Hope you've some advice! Thanks Answer: I'm glad you are realizing that your life is not over.
