I am new to the forum. I was wondering - how often do most of you get cold sores in a year? I want to know at what point I should consider prescription options. Thanks.

I myself got a few really bad ones the first year or so I had H.Now I get them maybe 2x a year.The last one I got was very,very mild and hardly hurt at all and only lasted about a week.

I've only taken the Valtrex once for 3 days when it was finally diagnosed.Supression therapy is a good idea if you tend to get more then 2-3 a year and they are bad OB's.

So then most people wait until they get a few in a row, say 2 or 3 in the span of a few months before going to the doctor?

Also, do you find you get them more in certain seasons, like winter or is stress more of a trigger?

I am wondering if it is a good idea to get a prescription on hand in case I feel one coming on or I should wait.
