I am still unsure...
Question: I am a female, and am newly diagnosed with hsv-1, oral herpes. I have had my first and only outbreak down in my genital region..I am fully aware of the intercourse "rules"...I am still hung up on the kissing "rules". I am chatting to someone online...we are wanting to meet...but I am afraid to, as I dont know what to do. I know I can refrain from sex, until we get and know eachother better-- but kissing? :?: please help?? I dont want to ruin our first "meeting"-but I dont want to put him at risk either...HELP :!: Thanks "vibe" Answer: Why don't you just sit down and talk to him about it... ya know? What do you have to lose by being upfront and honest? Angela :D Answer: But...I am wondering though...if I kiss any guy passionately, this puts them at risk?....this is where I am confused.... Answer: Yes it does put them at risk. A definate no-no if you are having any symptoms, but when you are not having symptoms, there is still a small chance that you could be shedding the virus. The best thing to do is KNOW your partner before engaging in any personal contact. INFORM them. That is not to say TELL them, because telling them isn't enough. They need to know exactly what their risk is. Most people (80%-90% of adults) have already been exposed to hsv1. If you are ga-ga over someone and want to take the relationship further, it is just a matter of a simple blood test. Your partner may already have been introduced to HSV1...you never know. Good luck...Colleen Answer: But...I am wondering though...if I kiss any guy passionately, this puts them at risk?....this is where I am confused.... If you have oral herpes and you kiss somebody passionately then yes, this does put that person at risk of contracting herpes from you. Herpes has to be present and active on the surface of the skin. The circumstances have to be just right. There is also asymptomatic shedding to take into consideration.
