duration of outbreaks?

Question:
I posted once before and no one actually answered the question, so I am going to try again since I'm still suffering.

I am dealing with what I think is my first outbreak....since the beginning of January. I have a sore/rash on my chin for going on 8-9 weeks. I acutally think I may have contracted it back in october as I was dealing with several months of malaise, but the sore didn't appear since January.

Anyway, I went to the doc. He didn't think it was herpes and gave me steroid creme. That worked like a charm and in 4 days it was gone, but within 1 day of stopping use, the sore was back and as bad as ever. I have a new appt with the doc tuesday night. I can't stand the wait, though. I feel like a complete leper going to work.

I've been doing lots of research and it looks way more like a herpes sore than anything else I've found, but everywhere I look it says that the duration for herpes is usually 7-10 days. Has anyone ever heard of an outbreak lasting months?

Orangeena ~

You said that you *think* you are dealing with your first outbreak. Have you seen a doctor to have this confirmed OR are you just going on a hunch?

You said that the doctor you saw didn't *think* what you had was herpes. Did he run tests to confirm whether you have herpes OR not?

You need to find out if you have herpes for sure Or not ~ don't you think?

Answer:
As I said in my original post, I am going back to the doctor and he is doing more tests. No one here seems to want to answer my question though. Last time I posted and asked, all replies werers about going to the dr and ignoring the actual question.

Yes, I know I need to get confirmation. Yes, I have been going to the doc. Yes, he is doing tests. Yes, we are trying to confirm.

Will some one please just tell me if they ever heard of an outbreak lasting for months?

I don't mean to get testy, but how many times do I have to ask before I get more of a reply than "go to the doctor" (which I already said I'm doing)?

Answer:
Actually, nobody wants to venture a guess about a diagnosis in your case. Your symptoms aren't classic to most of us, so anyone who answers would just be guessing in a vacuum. When you get the answer - "see your doctor", it generally means the reader is concerned about you from the symptoms you describe and you need to be seen. If you want to get testy, well - that's up to you. But, if you do have herpes, I can tell you that you'll get a whole heck of a lot of support and really good advice here. So, maybe just wait until the doc gives you a diagnosis. If herpes, come on back and you'll get tons of good help and support.
