Do NOT let this virus make you settle for less than you deserve. I found a fabulous guy too and have been with him over 2 years....they ARE out there, and will love you no matter what.

I am new to this site, hence this late reply. As one of the ladies with H you refer to, let me just say thank you so much for sharing your news here on this forum. I only contracted herpes recently, and it's so reassuring to read of your love and devotion for your fiancee despite of H and your "What's herpes?!?" attitude!

I agree that total honesty and openness are the key (with herpes as with ALL parts of a relationship), but it's a scary prospect to think about trying to start a relationship with someone who isn't infected and might think the worst. Thanks again.

I am HSV- and dated an HSV+ woman for 18 months. I felt the same way you did. The only real negative feeling I had was anger - against the guy who gave it to her. That didn't help either of us, though, so I had to give that up too! Although we are not together anymore (she has married and had a kid), I still remember her as "her" and not as "the ex with herpes". All it took was to use condoms and avoid sex during outbreaks. Hell, after 18 months, it's no trouble to go a week without sex!
