Recentaly Diagnosed with Ocular Herpes
Question: Hi, I've been struggling with the physical & emotional diagnosis of ocular herpes. 1st was diagnosed with allergies of the eye, then pinkeye, then a scratch on the eye, then the "dentrite" appeared & a correct diagnosis was made. Symptoms have been extreme pain, blurry vision, red eye, tearing, & horrible photophobia. To make matters worse, I was allergic to the eye drops for the treatment! Has anyone had experience with this? I'm frightened that I may lose my vision. Also heard that ocular herpes predisposes you to herpes encephalitis, although my doctors say no. Any encouragement and/or info would be greatly appreciated! Answer: Gee, denise I'm sorry to hear this. I'm assuming because you have dendritic keratitis that your infection is due to type 1 herpes. Well your doctors are correct that viral encephalitis is not a direct complication from ocular herpes... I do see how you would think so because of the involvement of the cranial nerves. There is always a remote possibility with type 1 to experience encephalitis. Don't worry about that right now. You have enough problems with the eye infection. focus on getting the infection and allergic reaction cleared up. IF your cornea is damaged you may be a candidate for a sight-saving corneal transplant. I'll keep hope alive for you Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
