Question:
I was wondering if anyone has outbreaks that are painful in places such as the hip, thighs, legs, knees, lower back, and upper back oppose to pain in the genital area (painful lesions, bumps, or sores)? I was diagnosed about three weeks ago and my worse symptoms included very bad pain in my lower back (which moved to upper, but mainly in lower back), hip, thighs, legs/knees, pressure in my vagina and pain when I urinated. I have not experienced any painful lesions or sores, but I did have a bump inside of my vagina that itched.

Honestly, I feel that herpes is a very confusing virus. Some people have very bad symptoms, some people have mild symptoms, and some people have no symptoms at all, but all-in-all you are still contagious and can pass it on to someone else. I am very frustrated because I cannot find any concrete answers in regard to this virus (there is still a lot of uncertainty). However, I do know that I am going to take care of myself by eating the foods that can benefit my body as well as exercising and meditating (relieving stress or staying stress free as much as possible). I am going to educate myself on this virus and try my very best to live a healthy lifestyle because I want to deal with this virus as least as possible. I have to say that I feel as if I am still in the shock phase, but I have accepted it because I have no other option but to accept it especially when you are in pain and not feeling so well. My days are good when I am feeling well, but when that pain hits me, it is very hard to deal with and that is when I fall into that pity/depressed stage. That is why I am so glad that I found this forum, so I can express myself freely about my ups, downs, and even positive moments in regard to this virus.

I really have a lot to say, but I do not want to write a book. Eventually, I am going to visit a Herpes help group in person, but until then I will definitely receive and give support on this forum.

I have not experienced any painful lesions or sores, but I did have a bump inside of my vagina that itched. i had some pain in my feet/thighs at first. then during the ob just a general ache all over > to the point it took me nearly a hr to sit up in bed. and especially the pain when u pee. the general pain all over u might have felt MIGHT have been to do the "flu like symptoms" u get before a ob.
also this is just my theory> but the herpes virus lives in the nerves of the lower spine> so nerves> let u know how u feel(pain wise through sensation)
so if ur having a ob, those nerves could be shoot off that sensation of pain....just a thought.

Answer:
My first out break started with agonising burning when urinating, so the doctor thought i had a urinary tract infection.
Then my genitals became swollen and red. I had a really bad discharge that was clear in colour and like saliva in consistancy.
It took 5 days before i had any blisters appear and by then i was already in agony.
Then after 7 days the numbness on the legs and buttocks started.
It took nearly 3 weeks to get rid of everything and even then i still had some tingling and itchiness.

I now feel I am having a second outbreak only 2 months after the first.
It feels like the last one did at the end. I have tingling and itchiness. No blisters....yet. I hope i am wrong but this is one xmas pressie i wasn't counting on.

Both times it started a couple of days after my period stopped. I can only hope that i will not have to suffer this every single month. It's awful.

After the lesion heals and you still feel tingly/itchy, is that part of the outbreak? are you still highly contagious?
