Question about herpes 1
Question: Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to all of this. Here is a question I'm pretty sure I know the answer to but I need some input. A guy I was dating used to get cold sores. I know cold sores are actually herpes one. Which can be transferred to genital, right? So when I asked him if he had herpes he of course responded by staying, no it's just a cold sore. I was totally uneducated about it all. Of course now I'm positive for one and two. I have not been with anyone after our breakup. And before I dated him i was negative. Pretty safe to say he is the one that gave me herpes. But he still insists he's negative for herpes and actually freaked, or at least acted freaked out and said I best not have given it to him. Well, I can prove I didn't have it before him, if that's what I need to do. No problem. I asked him to show me he's negative, aka labs. So my understanding is a "cold sore" can spread to the genital area and cause herpes two, right? Learning lots from this site. Thanks. Answer: I also have not heard from him. He's totally....non contact now. As soon as I said I was getting tested, as I have with all of my relationships when they ened, he started to vanish. Like he knew I'd come back positive. Snake. Answer: Sorry to hear about what happened. It sucks when it catches you by surprise... Even worse when they run away. I'm grateful I'm still in contact with the person who gave it to me. Your two questions: I know cold sores are actually herpes one. Which can be transferred to genital, right? So my understanding is a "cold sore" can spread to the genital area and cause herpes two, right? Your questions are partly right and partly wrong. There are two strains of herpes viruses, herpes one (HSV1) and herpes two (HSV2). Cold sores don't necessarily have to be caused by HSV1, but they usually are. But sometimes HSV2 can cause cold sores (for example, this could happen if the recipient performed oral sex on someone with a genital herpes outbreak). Likewise, genital herpes is usually caused by HSV2, but HSV1 can also cause genital herpes (for example, this could happen if someone with a cold sore gave oral sex to the recipient).
