I can only hope that researchers in those companies feel the same. I know in the end it's the business execs that hold the pursestrings, but there's hope! Look at the HPV vaccine that was just released last year. True, it costs $400 a shot, but it will prevent cervical cancer and HPV.

At $400 it's about the money. Business runs our government and it's all about who can grab a piece of that $400. If our tax dollars were used for truly constructive things that benefited tax payers, a simple vaccine would be available to every tax payer at a reasonable price. And I'm not talking about robbing tax funds to pay the $400 per shot for those who can't afford it...

The vacine does not prevent all types of hpv at all......there are over 100 strains of the hpv virus......also, not all strains cause cancer, and while it may help prevent some cases that may have been related to the few strains it protects against, it does not "prevent" people from getting cervical cancer......might help to prevent a small percentage of cases, but it is by no means a miracle drug, or even that big of a milestone........and when you think of all the people already infected with some strain of HPV....there is nothing to help them yet either so while some people are trying to look at this as a prevention for cervical cancer I feel it is not correct for people to try and market this as a huge cervical cancer drug.......plus check out the info....only a small population of women were studied, no info. is known on future effects of taking the shot, and the disclaimer says that it may not even be affective for some women in protecting them from the few strains it supposedly protects against. I know people who are honest and kind would like to believe that other researchers and people out there would be interested in actually trying to find cures and progressive vaccines to actually help people but the sad reality is that there are more researchers, or actually most times not the individual researchers....more so the companies as whole entities that are in it for the moeny. The hpv vaccine is a perfect example of a money based vaccine thats primary benefit is the money it brings in to Merck........and glaxosmithkline also has a vaccine that "failed" but they are working on revamping it currently and yet again.......a money maker. Sorry to rant on but the hpv vaccine and all the hype about it really anger me the way it is being marketed to people.....false advertising if you ask me and really do your own research on it.....and not just on Merck related sites. Sorry to rain on....just my feelings about it....wanted to get it out.

Sounds like progress is being made in finding a cure...but I'm not sure if they'll find one during my lifetime. Who knows!

In the meantime, I'll continue to see HSV as a way of making sure I take good care of myself, minimizing stress (and other BS) and letting it weed out the shallow people from my life :)
