Am I about to have an outbreak?

Question:
I've never been diagnosed but I have been having some weird symptoms that correlate with herpes and I am scared to death freaking out. On wednesday I had the worst rectal pain/pressure. i thought I was constipated because I've felt this pain before when i am on my period (which I am currently on). Well it's never been this intense. Anyway, next day I finally was able to go and felt fine the whole day. Day after that felt this really weird raw/rugburn feeling on my quadricep, groin/leg, hip and my back. Now I keep thinking I feel something down there but I'm not sure if it's just my imagination. I keep checking every hour to see if there's redness and there's nothing. Well what I wanted to know was how long after these symptoms does it show it's ugly physical face? It's now been three days since the rectal pain

Answer:
2 days to 3 weeks is the window period for them to show up. you can take a test to see if you have been infected in the last 6 weeks and there is another that you can take that can tell after 12 weeks. some people carry it and don't really have out breaks. some people can not show symptoms untill 12 weeks. the test is the only sure way. typically they show up as sores, then blister and then disappear. different people can be effected different ways.

i was having unprotected sex with a lady about 6 times for over a period of two months. she told me she had herpes and i quit having sex with her. i was shocked for about 2 weeks then i took the 6 week test which came up negative. not to long from now i will take the other test that covers me from the 2 weeks i was unaware and it may have not picked up on the test. it has been a mental strain and i'll be glad to find out for sure. i'm 90% sure i'm clear. this has been a wake up call for me. it doesn't sound like your symptoms are classic herpes. as far as i go my mind has played the most tricks on me. i feel for people that have this but i really hate people that put others at risk. 50-80% of people have herpes...

Answer:
You didn't mention that you have any reason to believe you've been infected with hsv or report any partners who have had the virus.

If you are unsure of whether or not you could have been infected or a time frame of reference you may want to ask for a herpes specific blood test but it will not tell you if you have genital herpes it can only tell you if the antibodies are present in your body. If you already suffer from herpes coldsores they will have caused you to have antibodies and that would produce a positive test result without confirming if the pain you are feeling is indeed from hsv.

If this pain persists you may want to see someone who specializes in proctology or rectal issues. hsv is not the only thing that can cause painful bowel issues.

And this may sound crazy but if you have a good lamp and a full length mirror you can disrobe stand in front of the mirror with your back to it and lean down and view your back end from between your legs. Then if you see the evidence of blisters etc you can have an idea of what to tell your dr. yeah its goofy but less difficult than peering down at a handheld mirror etc.
