Question: Is there any type of place that can test for herpes without having to record it on your medical history, especially if it was positive? I am having a lot of the symptoms (tingling, twitching, prickly thighs), but no lesions, and I really want to find out soon, but I don't want it to be permanently on my medical records. I've heard of planned parenthood, but when i tried to register online, they asked for a social security number? Is this still okay? If not, does anyone know where else one can get an anonymous herpes blood test done, and how much they cost? Thanks!!! Answer: The planned parent hood in my area does not offer a blood test for herpes, only a culture and as you said you do not have any lesions you may want to find out first. (I wasted a good amount of time because of this  ) I think that any office you go to will ask for you social security number, they need it for their own records and documentation, liability and insurance purposes, etc.. I've never heard of an anonymous test for herpes but I don't know that one doesn't exist. It's not a bad thing though, to have a positive diagnosis on your medical records. The medications for it (if taken) can interact with other medications, it is something you would want to disclose to your health care provider. I'm not sure if you're concerned about this or if herpes is something that has to be reported to a public health record and I believe that it is but I'm not 100%. Aren't I helpful? :? Answer: Just to let you know......if you go to your regular doctor for testing your privacy is an issue that they take very seriously these days. Fines for releasing info, discussing info with anyone are steep. I know every one of our patients history, i work as a clinical assistant for internal medicine and I would NEVER discuss, not even with our front desk person, anyones medical condition that is personal. Obviously discussions take place or the office can not run right but I can assure you that NO ONE can release your info to anyone else. And in all honesty, this may sound harsh, no one in the office personally cares. MANY of our patients are std positive and it isnt an issue. My labs and medical info are in my chart. Besides, if you are positive you will , maybe, need medical treatment at some point. THe health dept in my county does not provide the testing or treatment any longer. Hope this helps.
