Just a few minutes of your time
Question: O.K. hear is the deal I just tested negative to both type 1 & 2 HSV using the type specific blood test. I had what I thought was an initial out brake last week that was located on the end of my penis. It presented with classic signs to include pain, small blisters etc? on visual inspection my doctor felt that it was an HSV out brake. My girl friend whom I am in a committed and monogamous relationship with (we have nothing but trust for each other) has never presented with or tested positive for HSV. She has had herself tested last week but has yet to receive results back from the exam. I strongly feel that my out brake was an initial one. My question is this if she tests positive for HSV can I assume that I have contracted HSV from her based on the physical exam from my physician and will I be able to have myself retested in the future for HSV antibodies and if so how long from now until the results would be considered accurate. I am not concerned about how I have possibly contracted the virus but rather figuring out which one of us carries it so that we can develop a safe plan of action. We would like to have children one day and this information from what I have read will be important when that time comes. We would also like to limit the potential for spreading the virus to other parts of our bodies as we will continue to enjoy a fulfilling sex life with each other. If anyone has any information or suggestions about how you have dealt with these same issues we would be grateful for your time. Answer: unfortunately, if she does test positive for HSV then it would be safe to say that you have also contracted it. This being said, next time you see an outbreak you should have another test done by your doctor. It is best to be tested 24-48 hours after the outbreak, if it is done after, a false negative result can occur. The only other suggestion i can offer you is that if you do have HSV, to get the right medication for it to limit the outbreak to a minimum. Valtrex seems to be the most popular but there are others to Hope this information has helped in some way, take care! Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
