Confusing Results Paper

Question:
I bloody HATE this paper I was given from my nurse. I saw a lesion on Monday, went to the doctor on Tuesday and had cultures taken, though the doc assured me that it was probably just an ingrown hair (ha), got MUCH worse wednesday and went back. I was then given Valtrex wednesday night and pretty much assured that I DID in fact have herpes, though another culture was taken. Now, a week after that Friday I went in and the nurse told me I tested positive for herpes and I didn't have any questions at the time because I have severe white coat syndrome and I just blank out. I had also been reading a lot about it, so I was sure I knew enough.

I forgot that I wanted to know whether I had HSV1 or 2 - though it is in the genital region, the only way I know of that I could have gotten it (after the fact, of course) would be oral sex and oral herpes. But this paper that I have says the following:

HSV1 DFA Negative
HSV2 DFA Negative

(The HSV DFA test has reflexed to culture to confirm negative or inadequate DFA results.)

HSV Final Culture - Culture positive for Herpes Simplex Virus.

HSV Preliminary Culture - culture received and in progress. Final results pending.

Now, I have not received another call saying that I have more test results in and this has been about two weeks now. Should I call and ask them to clarify the test results and see if any others were in from the culture taken the second day I went to the doctor?

The problem is - I went to an urgent care because of my insurance and they're not going to be up to date on specifically who I am, etc.

I'm pretty sure that I do have genital herpes due to the unmistakable outbreak I experienced and the fact that the Valtrex worked, but I need to know which kind I have!!

I hate doctors. :(

Answer:
Call them back and tell them that you want to know what type you have.

You can also see if there is a herpes aware doctor in your area.

Hope this helps,

Answer:
Thanks a lot for that site! I really was frustrated afterwards, seeing how much information I've gotten online that the doctor didn't say anything about. She was very sympathetic and kind, but didn't know too much about it specifically, it seems.
