Down to the Wire!
Question: First I want to say thanks to the understanding people I have encountered on this board. Ive got a month left before Im going for my Herpes Select test. My back pain has subsided but I've had a kind of raw feeling in the right side of my pubic region. IDK if that is indicative of herpes or if its a prodrome or if Im just paranoid but Im looking forward to some piece of mind. Any information pertaining to this symptom would help out. Its kind of hard to desribe its not an itch and it does not hurt but its like Im exrta-cognizant of a certain area of my pubic region. Thanks again y'all Answer: About a month before I had my initial outbreak, I experienced excruciating low back pain that lasted for about a week. This was about three days after my first possible exposure to HSV-2 (which I knew nothing about being exposed to at the time because I was married and thought both monogamous). Then, a month later, I had a visible outbreak - a doozie. No one has told me that my low back pain had anything to do with herpes, but I sincerely believe that this was when I got my initial infection. If there was an outbreak, it was internal, but the pain was manifested in my back. A lot of folks talk about being "rashy" as being their only symptom with herpes. I am definitely not trying to diagnose you, and your bloodtest will be the determinant. Maybe what I want you to know is that you should be careful sexually until you know your status. The Herpes Select IgG type specific test (HSV-2 specific) will frequently yield a positive about four weeks into infection. If you are anxious to know, you can go ahead and take the test now - understanding that a negative will not be conclusive for a few more weeks, but a positive would be definitive if that is your result. Answer: Thanks for the information. The back pain I had about a month ago really scared me because I know the disease is locared in the nerve endings of the lower spine. I know its not conclusive but Im just really apprehensive and scared. Do you know if lower back pain is an unusual system early on? Answer: Wait until Saturday morning, and post your question on WebMd at Terri Warren's Genital Herpes site. One of the nurses should be on the boards to answer questions at that time.
