Hi,

I have slept with someone who has herpes.
She has not had an outbreak in over a year.
She contracted the virus 15+ years ago.
We were not using any condoms.

I am converned I may have contracted the virus.
I do not have any syptoms, it has been 5 days since we were together.

When would I be able to tell? I have read, within 2 weeks.
Anyone have any experiences with this.?

Dean- Welcome. If you are going to develop clinical symptoms of genital herpes usual onset is 2-10 days. I've read sources that say up to a month? Primary infections start out with Flu-like symptoms: headache clasically around the eyes, low grade fever, malaise, swollen lymph glands in the groin, then the appearance of the typical rash... clusters of itchy red bumps that progress to blisters. My symptoms began 4 days after exposure.

I dont want to hijack this thread but I am a bit confused now I didnt have any rash or sores below until last month yet people tell me you can have herpes for yearssss and not know it.Now you guys are saying symptoms would start 2 weeks or a month later? Is it possible to have symptoms and not the blisters,sores,or rashes with the first outbreak and others for years and then one day suddenly have one sore and itching? I am just curious being new to herpes

Hi Mom. I understand after their firstexposure to HSV... it is possible for some people to be asymptomatic... not to break out or feel ill... or experience milder symptoms or symptoms are misdiagnosed...It's complicated HUH? :? Viruses have an incubation period... That period is the time frame of 2 days-2 weeks before people develop the typical active infection with the sores and all. With HSV.. people can be infected/contagious due to shedding but not show symptoms. Did you have flu-like symptoms when your rash/sore first appeared? Most people are pretty sick with their true primary episode... viruses are evil :twisted: I think he was asking if he were to show classic symptoms... how long would it take until onset :D You have 5 kids huh?
