Question:
I tested positive for HSV2 a few of weeks ago.

I have never had any outbreaks of any sort. I have been with the same man for 10 years. There have been no other partners since him. He has never had any outbreaks either. He was recently tested and was negative. This confuses me since we have been together for so long.

My midwife told me that I could be a non shedder. What are the chances of that? Is there a test to determine this?

Does this mean I will always be a non shedder?

What about oral sex? If I have never had an outbreak and neither has he should we be cincerned about oral sex if there are no outbreaks?

I had the HSV1 and HSV2 serology test. HSV1 was negative. HSV2 came back with a positve value of 6.9.

It's still possible to pass herpes even when there are no outbreaks present. That's through asymptomatic shedding. Asymptomatic shedding means that the virus is present on the surface of the skin but we can't see or feel it. People have asymptomatic shedding sometimes before, during, and after outbreaks. People that don't get outbreaks can shed too... We don't know which days we are shedding...

I was recently diagnosed myself, though I do have symptoms. It is possible you have had very mild symptoms and were just unaware, I would have missed mine altogether had I not been shaving down there. There was no pain, no real outbreak, just a couple little red spots on my inner thigh. Which I mistook for razor bumps or ingrown hairs. I decided to keep an eye on them since I had recently began a new relationship, since they didn't go away like razor bump should and didn't hurt like razor bump does, I went to the dr., had the blood test, my H 2 was over 5, which I found out means I didn't just get it, that it had been in my system for awhile. We were very lucky because even though we had had sex several times without protection, he did not get it. Not sure how long I've had it, but have never given it to anyone either. And never noticed symptoms before either.

Whether you have symptoms or not, everyone seems to have a different experience with this virus. Because your antibody numbers are so high with Herpes 2, you have most likely had this for some time. the fact that your partner has never gotten it means you may be one of the lucky ones that doesn't outbreak. That may be what your nurse meant. Some people never outbreak or outbreak once or twice and not again. That is uncommon but I have read cases like that since doing research.

basically it tells you the difference between the H 1 and H 2. With H 2 you don't really have to worry about oral sex, its H 1 that is dangerous with that. It seems that H 2 has a hard time living anywhere above the waist. I certainly would not have oral or any sex if there is an outbreak present, but there doesn't seem to be much chance of spreading H 2 through oral sex. Hope this helps.
