i get cold sore on my lip once a year or two SINCE A KID. the last time was OVER a year ago. never caused a problem before with EX wife or lengthy relationships. NEVER THOUGHT IT COULD IF NO RED BUMP

spent 4 days with girlfriend FIRST TIME. had a lot of sex. (SHE lost count at 50 O's). a week later she has primary hsv1 genital ob. a LOT OF PAIN. i still have no symptoms.

1. THE DOC SAYS SHE CANNOT TRANSMIT HSV1 BACK TO ME, EVEN GENITAL.
DO YOU AGREE?

2. PRIMARY HAS LASTED 2 WEEKS NOW. HOW LONG DOES A PRIMARY HSV1 GENITAL NORMALLY LAST?

3. SHE HAS BEEN ON VALTREX 1000 A WEEK NOW. ALSO DOXIPEN FOR THE ITCHING. DOC SAYS VALTREX NOT TOO HELPFUL WITH PRIMARY HSV1 OB. IS THIS CORRECT? IF SO, WHAT CAN MINIMIZE HER SEVERE PAIN? BENZOCAINE VERY SHORT RELIEF.

4. DOC SAYS HSV1 SHOULD PROBABLY NOT CAUSE ANYMORE OB WITH HER. IS THIS CORRECT?

5. WE LOVE EACH OTHER AND VOW TO NOT LET THIS INTERRUPT OUR LIFE ANY MORE THAN IT HAS. ANY SUGGESTIONS HOW TO HANDLE SEX IN THE FUTURE?

6. SHOULD I BE TYPE TESTED? SEEMS UNNECCESARY?

7. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO COPE WITH THIS SUCCESSFULLY WILL BE MOST APPRECIATED PLEASE. EMAIL OR POST PLEASE.

DO YOU AGREE? You already have herpes so you can't contract what you already have, right? :wink:

2. PRIMARY HAS LASTED 2 WEEKS NOW. HOW LONG DOES A PRIMARY HSV1 GENITAL NORMALLY LAST? It varies from person to person. Primary outbreaks are not a walk in the park for some folks. I know mine wasn't.

3. SHE HAS BEEN ON VALTREX 1000 A WEEK NOW. ALSO DOXIPEN FOR THE ITCHING. DOC SAYS VALTREX NOT TOO HELPFUL WITH PRIMARY HSV1 OB. IS THIS CORRECT? IF SO, WHAT CAN MINIMIZE HER SEVERE PAIN? BENZOCAINE VERY SHORT RELIEF. Actually, the Valtrex should be helping. The only thing I can think of that would be causing her discomfort is if she has something in addition to her herpes outbreak going on. Has she been back for her follow-up?

4. DOC SAYS HSV1 SHOULD PROBABLY NOT CAUSE ANYMORE OB WITH HER. IS THIS CORRECT? The only thing you guys can do is to wait and see what happens. I don't see how the doctor can tell you that she won't ever have another outbreak again.

5. WE LOVE EACH OTHER AND VOW TO NOT LET THIS INTERRUPT OUR LIFE ANY MORE THAN IT HAS. ANY SUGGESTIONS HOW TO HANDLE SEX IN THE FUTURE? Just be patient with her and give her body a chance to heal. If outbreaks continue to be a problem she may want to think about suppressive therapy. Also, be sure the doctor rules out other possible problems in addition to the herpes, ok?

6. SHOULD I BE TYPE TESTED? SEEMS UNNECCESARY? Why not? If you are curious about it then the only way to feed that curiosity is to get some answers, right?
