Help! Itching driving me mad!
Question: I'm having my first outbreak of HSV-2, finally diagnosed after 10 days. I started Valtrex (now on day 7), and the sores cleared up relatively quickly. But now I am ithcing like MAD and going crazy! I couldn't sleep last night. I thought after the sores were gone the outbreak would be over. How much longer do I have to go?! Anyone? Is there anything I can put on my vulva or take orally that will help the itching?! Help!! :!: Answer: Sorry this reply is late... When the sores are drying up and going away. Instead of scratching them you may want to try putting a cool washcloth on the area. Just try to make sure you keep it clean. I wish I knew of a cream or something that would help but I don't. Answer: There is an acyclovir ointment that helps heal and soothes....its wonderful. Ask your MD... Answer: if the sores are gone u can use some ointment like a&d > that stuff is like a holygrail when ur in need. Answer: I am so sorry to hear that you are itching badly. I had bad itching also and I would put a cool towel (clean) and ice on my genital area. It helped relieve the itching and pain for the most part. I do not know of a cream, but if anyone who reads this does know of a treatment that will help, please let all of us know for future reference. It would be truly, truly, truly appreciated!:) Answer: I have a small area of HSV-I on my perianal area; the itching is by FAR the worst part! I've just had an outbreak - stress from law school finals - and today the itching was so bad I called the pharmacist to ask if anything would help. I took 2 Benadryl a few hours ago, and I did feel better, but I think they are wearing off... I will deifnitely look into the acyclovir cream. I take oral acyclovir 3x/day for 5 days when I have outbreaks, but the first 24-48 hours are HORRIBLY ITCHY - I can't wait for this to pass (as it always does...I have to keep reminding myself.)
