Are the tests accurate?
Question: Hi to all, I decided to take a general blood test for no reason whatsoever and the results for herpes II IgG came back as positive. It read 58.70H ( normal range 0.00 - 20.00 au/ml ) previous or current HSV infection. can anyone help in telling me what exactly this means? Afterwards I spoke to a doctor and he said that tests are not exactly correct and that other things can show up as herpes. I did get a yeast infection a while ago, could this also show up in a test as herpes? What else can show up as that in a blood test? I know that I have jock itch for a fact , the doctor checked it out and said that it can also test positive for herpes because of that. Can someone help me please, I feel like if I am going crazy over this. Answer: yeast infections are bachterial Herpes is Viral. One would not show up as another. They are not even closely related or in the same family. However, sometimes a herpes outbreak can FEEL like a yeast infection and be mistaken for one (when it is really herpes....or visa versa.) I am not expert, but looking at your bloodwork (which is usually VERY accurate) I would say you have herpes. Perhaps someone here with more knowledge can correct me if I am wrong. If still unsure, go to another doctor or health clinic and have another test done. Perhaps by someone who is a little more knowledgeable about herpes and viruses than the doctor you went to. Answer: Oh boy that is a shocker to me, not even sure how I got it. Thanks for the info, I'll have toi learn to deal with it then Answer: don't let it drive you too crazy.....I know, easier said than done! Even after 3 plus years of having this stuff, I still go nuts from time to time...usually during an outbreak. Especially the past year when I have had them more frequently than before. ugh!!! But like I said, maybe talk to another doctor, one who is a bit more knowledgeable about herpes....hopefully they can shed more light..... Good luck and you know you can always ask someone here questions if you need help! :D Answer: Thanks again for the reassurance. I know it will be hard for me to deal with it. Even went today for another test, i think they are doing IgM and IgG at this lab. It is hard to find a good doctor that knows about this , even on the internet I've come across sites that have different theories and explanations I have so many questions like Can it only be through sex that is this transmitted, read in a few places that it's not entirely so - if someone has an outbreak and there is skin to skin contact it can be transmitted and stuff like that. When I get the other results if the figures are different can that mean something? Can you find out how long you have had it ? It's so hard to deal with this, and I still need to tell my girlfriend about this, that might be so very hard for me to do. I will try to keep my head up with this. But as you said it is viral, is ther anything else that can be viral and appear to be herpes? I know it sounds as if I am in denial, but who wasn't when they first found out?
