Question:
So I was newly dx in June 2006 with HSV-1--my first outbreak. It cleared relatively quickly with Acyclovir. In Oct I unfortunately had another outbreak, but this time the acyclovir didn't work. My MD changed to Valtrex to which that actually seemed as though it made it worse. As one spot healed another appeared and it was a never ending story. It is now 2nd week in december and I have finally have SOME relief with Famvir 500mg three times day. I went through numerous immunological testing to which came back neg. All blood work came back normal. My MD consulted several other docs at a conference and they came to the conclusion that there is a strain of HSV that is resistant to the anti-viral meds. I am the second case here in California :( I just want you all to be aware and please be careful. Take ALL of your medication until the end. These bugs are mutating and transferring to others in "mega mode" as they call it........I am on a trial for Famvir for prophalaxis for 1 year to see if they can keep the bug in "check" My next step is to do a hospital stay with IV Anti-Viral medication that they are experimenting with for HIV (+) patients (I am HIV neg but to keep the virus in "check" results in a lot of the similar procedures). the reason some virus's* become resistant is because after being in the body that takes the meds > they build up a immunity to it> just like we are trying to do to the virus. so taking ALL ur meds, might not be helping u.

so if i were u , i would try alternate methods then just rx. like vitamins(like coconut oil- apparently they have had good results w/ it) or etc... THERE USED TO BE some really good info of other treatments on this site.> but now ur gonna have to check it out for ur self.

but yea. hope everything works out for u i know i would hate to find out i had the resistant strain> maybe ull get to have the new meds named after u :)

I am also in Calif and I am having trouble finding a doctor out there that knows about hsv, do you have any recommendations? Hi Im only 17 with this Herpes its terrible your always thinking hey thats never going to happen to me or Nooo my family doesnt carry that , its really sad it makes me cry every day since my sister just had it a month ago, go figure a month later i get it But shes only 15, Its stuck with us for our rest of our lifes. its really sad becasue I dont want to give it to anyone else... Anyways though i went to the doctors on tues when i couldnt take the pain anymore and they just said gargle salt water Yeh Ok well i did that for 2 days till it got worse I havent really ate anything in over a weekk i forsed so soup down but thats a bery little, i can barely drink water becuase these sores are so Aggervating. It just kills me, On thursday I went back to the doctors and they finally gave me meds. Valtrex...... It doesnt seem to be workin, like you had said it clears some of them up But i keep gettin new ones... My sister took the 500mg 5 times a day and she was better in a matter of 2 days here i am im takein 1000mg 2 times a day and its not doin really anything... Im so upset with this whole thing. :( Im tired of being in pain and not being able to sleep or talk or eat.... Do you think i should go to another med

some meds just work better for some people.
atfirst i was taking 1000 3 times a day and for like 2 weeks i didnt see any diffrence but once it does start to work > ull be one happy camper.

the first time u went to the doc> they just said gargle w/ salt water? DID they test u for herpes? im just assuming u "have" the herpes that are like canker sores> but alot more then just 1sore?

i think u need to take a deep breath. if u do have herpes stress> will not help u. do some research- there is a list of foods that are like triggers for a ob. see if what u eat normally are the ones that might cause more sores. if so> change what ur eating.

and be glad > it can always be so much worse> it might suck to eat at the moment> but if u have ever been scared* truly scared to drink/eat anything because of the pain that follows after digestion (because whatever goes in> comes out) and a genital ob> u cant physicaly stop ur self from doing that stuff.

yeh they said to just gargle salt water they tested it to see if it was strept throat... now instead of testing for other things she sent me home in pain, she wanted me to go back yesterday But i went back thurs becuae the pain was tooo intense and i couldnt sleep.. But as of today one of the sores on my lips fell off. its disqusting but I couldnt be happyer.... it left this little hole but i think it will be fine the ones on my tounge theres no more appering and the ones that where there are like yellowish nd getting littler, the only part that hurts really is in the back of my thorat my tonsil becuase they got on there and My moler back gums there still swollon Hopefully by Monday they Will be all gone and ill tey not to stress to Not be able to get ride of themm...
