New Years HSV2 Diagnosis
Question: Well, I was just at the doctor's office today with what I thought was a yeast infection but BOY was I wrong! I am 21yrs old, and married for almost 1 year... and newly diagnosed with herpes. I've been a wreck since I found out, and am scrambling to keep it together for my 2 year old son. My husband is being SUPER supportive for me, which on one hand I knew would happen, but on the other hand I was thinking irrationally and just KNEW that he was going to leave me. (silly, I know) Anyhow... I've been searching and searching online trying to find out all of the information known to man about this illness ( i guess thats the word?) and I ended up here (to my relief) I'm so baffled right now, wondering if my husband has it, where I got it, and when? I guess I will never know....for sure. My husband is planning to be tested (although he has never had an outbreak or symptoms) any advice for us? Answer: Did you have an actual blood test? If you did, and your blood comes back negative, you will know that this is your first ever outbreak, and that your husband most likely gave it to you. He could have had it for years without knowing -- many people don't know they have it until they infect their partner. The best thing for both of you is to get your test results and figure out what to do from there. If you are both infected, you can't reinfect each other, so you'll just have to deal with your outbreaks. If you are infected but he is not, you may wish to go on daily suppressive therapy with Valtrex to reduce the risk of infecting him. Keep doing your research and best of luck to you! Answer: we have things in common! i'm newly diagnosed (2ish weeks), newly married (8 months), and still in a state of shock and horror! when i came home from my dr's visit, i called my husband and said "you need to come home right now". he walked in, saw me, and knew something was wrong right away. while i was trying to stop crying long enough to hell him i had GH, he was turning into knots thinking i was about to tell him that i had something like cancer. i told him my diagnosis and begged him not to leave me. he just gave me a big hug and said he wouldnt ever do that. he's been great!unfortunately for me, im terrified of my crotch and on the inside i'm still trying to get over the intial horror. the dread of a new outbreak is pure tyranny. my advise is to lean in on your husband and try to see yourself in the way he sees you. hsv or not, you're still that wonderful awesome woman that he married.
