I'm not really sure WHAT to do....
Question: I'm new to the forum. Just VERY recently infected and I am in the midst of my first outbreak. I am in SO much pain it is UNREAL. I cannot move, I cannot sleep, I cannot get comfortable in any position, I am swollen like crazy, it feels as though my skin is ripping every time I MOVE. All I can do is cry. The doctor MAY be able to see me tomorrow, but until then, I do not know WHAT to do to even diminish this horrible, unbearable pain at all. ANY suggestions?! Thank you so much. Answer: vicodin. around 2 weeks into my ob, after reading, some info> about trying to keep the area dry and how some people actually used a blow dryer>> i had a fan across the room on and was just laying there... and the worst pain i have ever felt - and i have a Very high threshold for pain but i cried for hours- my mom was able to call the doc up very early in the am (i think she even got him at home) and he had seen my outbreak he knew it was bad> and sent in the rx for vicodin. and let me tell u> i cant rem. the next few days, literaly i was awake long enough to take the pills. if u are able to i suggest u ask for some serious pain meds, tell them that the otc stuff just doesnt work. Answer: During your outbreak, were you taking any meds from the doctor (besides the vicodin)? the vicodin sounds like a good idea-I need something to knock me out because I cannot sleep at all. If I DO fall asleep-it's for an hour or so and then I wake up in horrible pain. My boyfriend and I are going to the doctor today to get some Valtrex but I don't even know how long that is going to take to have ANY affect on me at all. (My boyfriend is in the midst of an outbreak as well, but his is far, FAR less severe than mine). I have tried the hairdyer thing and the laying in bed with a fan-hasn't helped ONE bit. I have cried non stop. I cannot hardly move. This pain is UNREAL and my boyfriend doesn't know what to think or do. It is actually, according to him, sressing him out beyond his limit because I am in such pain and he doesn't know what to do. It feels as though I am being ripped open from front to back over and over again. I cannot HANDLE this lasting 2 or 3 weeks. HOW did you deal with the pain for as long as you did?! I seriously hope that any future OB's I DO have are not NEARLY this bad. :(:(:( Answer: Hi Tonic... I was in excruciating pain three nights ago from my out break, the reason I went in to see my doc the next day. She gave me a prescription for Valtrex and for a nerve pain med called gabapentyn. It's made a huge difference in the level of my pain. You've probably already left for the doctor's office, but hopefully you mentioned the severe pain and he or she will medicate you for it. Nothing worse than that type of pain. Take care... Answer: yes, i was also on valtrex. but before i was on either meds, i was just taking every other painkiller you can buy at the store. nothing worked. the valtrex will take a few days, it wont work instantly, it took about 4 days... for me to really feel, or notice a diffrence. seriously i just stayed in bed. i tried to move as little as possible, the only times i did get up was to pee/ wash - oh and as a tip cause i know its horrible - try and pee in a warm bath, i had to sit like "butter fly" kind of, with your feet together, knees out>>> but atleast that was some relief. i always felt alittle bit better after this, even though it still hurt like a mother, atleast i could pee again with out screaming/crying. and i completly know how u feel, my bf stood by me the entire time, and seeing me in pain> and not being able to do anything just kills you. but belive me, you guys will be alot closer when this is all over. thats love ~lol Answer: Renee- Haven't left JUST yet. Were you in excruciating pain for just ONE night (the third day into you OB) or were you experiencing the pain all three days/nights? I have been in absolute agony for THREE whole nights and I am seriously at my wits end. Thank GOD I will have medicine today otherwise I don't know what I would do. Thank you for the suggestion of the pain medication. I WILL tell the doctor about that. WaxedWrong- I too have tried all the painkillers, and to NO avail. At first, I thought I was pretty lucky because it did not hurt when I had to pee, but yesterday THAT pain arose as well. IT'S HORRIBLE! But I WILL take your suggestion on the bath tub thing. I didn't even think about that. good idea. :) THANK YOU! I imagine that the Valtrex works different for everyone because my best friend has herpes as well, and after the first day of her OB she noticed a HUGE difference. I HOPE it kicks in sooner as opposed to later, because I am miserable! My situation is a little difficult. I am an American citizen but I moved to Canada to be with my boyfriend. Since I am not a Canadian citizen (paperwork is in the works) their medical treatment and what not does not apply to me as they have FREE medical treatment here. I had to WAIT to be able to go to the doctor because it's going to be VERY expensive. It's horrible. I had to wait until my boyfriend and I had the money to be able to go. I WOULD have gone at two or three days ago, but simply could NOT. I'm ALSO scared because I am about to start my period and not sure HOW that is going to affect my OB OR myself. Any suggestions? Or any advice on what I can expect or DO??? Thanks SO much to the both of you. you have both made me feel so much better. <3 Answer: Hi Tonic... Yes, I had pain the previous evenings, but it reached it's apex on monday night...absolutely horrific pain, as you well know. I feel much better now. As for your period, often hormonal changes around the time of your period can trigger obs(out-breaks). If I don't have any lesions in an area where it would be painful to insert a tampon, I go ahead and do so, and wash up very well after. Otherwise, I stick with a pad only. I have found (to my surprise) that having my period does not seem to make the out-break worse. At least, that's my experience. I hope this is of some help to you. I hope you find some relief soon, Tonic. I know that once I was on Valtrex and the nerve pain med? I was feeling a lot better that very same night. I hope you have equally successful results. Keep us posted, o.k? Answer: wow i dont even know what the period will do. it might just feel like the discharge/ puss u have- (or dont?) going on already hopefully thats the case- i would start a new thread on this(if u want more info on how to deal/ what it feels like etc) i dont think any one has actually ever talked about having a ob ON their period, i know its common to get them around the time of.
