Negative but.......
Question: okay so heres the thing...i had (protected) sex with a guy i later found out has genital herpes. this was around 11 weeks ago. about a month afterwards i started itching really bad on the outside of my vagina and i had a tingling feeling every now and then in my genital area. no bumps or sores. i just got tested last week and everything came out negative. but my question is...did i get tested too soon? do you think i should wait a few more weeks and get another blood test done? is it that common to have a false negative? Answer: i also want to add that i have that nerve pain that seems to be associated with herpes also. Answer: Id get tested again in a few more weeks just to be sure....but it is possible to have the test come back negative. I have a feeling that herpes can pass to another person asymptomatically and because they never have an outbreak until years down the line, they do not have an antibody response yet, so therefore, since the tests only test your blood for antibodies produced as the result of an infection (outbreak) there will not be any in your blood UNTIL you have an outbreak. I know some doctors will disagree and some people dont think that is true but my doctor said there is a good chance that it works that way too as it would explain the hundreds of cases that could be explained that way that she has seen in her 25 years as a gynecologist. I also have talked to a women I know who is an OBGYN practitioner at a different office who said she has had that theory for a long time now but says the research done on herpes is from a long time ago and that people have since gone on the knowledge found in previous years as staple guidelines and that new research should be done to find out more about the virus, because there is much we still dont completely understand. I have kind of thought this because it would explain my case.....like I got it, or my boyfriend, carried it for years, never had antibodies yet because of no symptoms and then one day it activated and passed on to the other and that would be the reason my antibody levels indicated a high likelyhood of a "recent" exposure ........so it may be that it was not a recent exposure, but finally an outbreak, to cause an antibody response, which could finally be detected. We will never know unless research is done to support this but herpes is very tricky so its definitely possible. As for you though, you say you had itchiness, and tingling, which I think would indicate symptoms, which would hopefully be enough to cause an antibody response, but I am not sure, theres a chance it wouldnt cause an antibody response. Also though, you may not have herpes and it may be a psychological response to finding out the person you had sex with has herpes and you may be having a mind-body psychological connection.....where you think you actually are experiencing symptoms....especially common if you read anything about herpes before feeling the tingling or itching. Either way, i would get tested again periodically every 6 months or year from now on just to be safe.......good practice with or without a suspected herpes infection :) so good luck to you....dont worry till you have to but be safe and take precautions. I hope you are fine though :) feel free to write if you ever feel like talking. You could get another one in a month, and if that's negative, you should feel confident that you don't have genital herpes. Depending on the test, they usually range from 96-99% accuracy. Getting two false negatives in a row would be extremely unlikely. Good luck! And keep up the safer sex. Answer: hello people , My first blood tests 3 weeks ago showed hsv1 and hsv2 . My second tests from another lab a week ago showed negative to herpes . Im very confused but very happy ,this is costing me plenty on tests and i feel i need to go again just to be sure although there is red downstairs its never itchy or sore just strange . Im praying its not hsv . Im confused big time a roller coaster of emotions ,depression and then hope . Blood tests should be more accurate than this and i dont often read about false positives only false negatives . o well im trying to be positive . Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
