Can a cold sore be this mild?

Question:
Hi,

I met a girl who had a tiny red spot on her lip. The spot was a bit bigger than a full stop on a computer keyboard and was on her top lip about centered horizontally. I believe there was no swolleness, no head, no puss, no discharge - nothing - just a small red spot that I deemed at the time to be a scab from dry lips. One perhaps might even have mistaken it for a mole.

I asked her if it was a cold sore nearly four days later and she said, ''Oh god no i didnt even know i had something'.

I have since read on websites that cold sore symptoms can be so mild that the person with the symptoms doesn't even recognize that it is a cold sore.

So based on mine and her description of the spot, does anyone think that it could have been a mild cold sore?

Cheers, I.

Answer:
sure it could have been, better suggest she get tested.

my friends bf, would get things like that, he never even like recognized it, until 3 of us had to tell him he had a herpes. (plus the test said pos to)

Answer:
She gave me oral sex. Am I in trouble?

Answer:
Telling her to get tested is almost impossible because it was a casual encounter and she not prepared to even talk to me on the phone about anything.

Are you sure your friends sores were so mild that he didn't even see them.

Answer:
And was it a blood test or a culture or the spots on the mouth? Were the spots that your bf had just a single spot?

I kind of need you to be very precise here because I am very distressed about having exposed my genitals to a cold sore.

Answer:
awesome.. i love when "friend" stories turn into a friend with a sexual encounter.

you exposed your genitals to a cold sore.
my friend didnt even know he had a issue until we told him.

i would start looking for bumps or cuts, or anything out of the norm going on in your genitals. then head to the doctor if you see something

Answer:
Well its been nearly three weeks and I have noticed nothing.

I have consulted with two doctors. The first said that if my partner wasn't aware of anything then it was almost certainly no problem and that was safe to disregard the event.

The second said that if my partner wasn't aware then it probably wasn't a cold sore and looked slightly bewildered that I'd still be worried. I asked her if this encounter was something that I needed to mention to partners and she as emphatic that I need not.

I appreciate your comments but you have gone from 'sure it could have been (a cold sore)' to 'you exposed your genitals to a cold sore.' I don't see how you could suddenly be so sure of the diagnosis when I gave you no extra information about the spot.

Answer:
It looked to me like a pin head scab from dry lips. Is that how your friend's bf's things looked like?

Answer:
I've been really obsessing about this since it happened - like havng a nervous breakdown!

You are the first person I have spoken to that has accepted that it really was a cold sore and your challenge has gotten me thinking.

Let me tell you a bit more about the spot. It was so small and unoticable that I think I only saw it twice the entire encounter and that was when I was close enough to her to kiss her. The rest of the time I don't actually remember seeing it or being drawn to it even though I was drawn to other aspects of her face such as a bit of lip hair, her large and I think furrowed lips, her tounge and her overall beauty. I also remember looking at her lips and not noticing the spot at all. It was as if the spot was hidden inside the furrows. Who knows, I really didn't spend much time examining it because I was drunk and horny. I am fairly sure I didn't imagine it though.

I am however obsessed with STDs and have a severe tendency to obsess about very small things to the point that the people around me think I am insane. But I was just lying in bed and it occurred to me that this small spot - which the owner didn't even know they had had nearly four days later - essentially changing my life forever is simply ridiculous. I also think that the notion that this spot was a cold sore is absolutely ridiculous!

So, anyone, does this really sound like it could possibly a cold sore?

Thanks, Ian.
