Imp. Question... Herpes or Razor Burn?? PLEASE HELP!

Question:
I have a pretty important question and was wondering if I could get some input. I know you guys arent "doctors" but its very hard for me to get to a doctor at the moment, so any initial help you could give would be imperative....

I usually shave my groin area with an electric "buzzer." Sometimes i get the typical razor burn and ingrown hairs. The other day however, I decided to shave in the opposite direction... i dunno why, but i just did lol. So a few days later I notice i have these lil "pimple-looking" things on my groin area. Not on my penis or scrotum or anything like that, just the area where the pubic hair is. There seem to be like 10 not really grouped together just spread out. It doesnt look like a normal ingrown hair, it looks more like a very tiny pimple with the whitish head, maybe like a blister...

I have had unprotected sex recently, but with no one who has a "known" herpes infection...

my question is, did my new way of shaving just give me a different reaction "down there" or did i coincidently get a primary outbreak? Let me add that the areas are not sore at all and do not hurt or anything... i will try to attach picture below as i will crop out anything that may be deemed offensive...

Please if anyone can let me know what they think. I know many will say just go to the doctor... but I am out of the country right now and it would be very difficult for me to do so. I plan on seeing a doctor when I get home as well as abstaining from sex, but just for my own edification I need to know if this is probably herped? the suspense is making me nuts...

thanks so much everybody and I really do appreciate any help anyone can give...

Answer:
since you are going to abstain from sex anyway and you can't get to a dr I'll give you my best opinion.

it could be from the clipper. it could be from something else like bacteria or heat rash ???

personally I'd lean most towards the clipper if you didn't say that you had unprotected sex.

Answer:
*no i HAVE had unprotected sex... would heat rash or bacteria look like that? also, if it were to be herpes, how long does these "blisters" last before turning into sores?

Answer:
I got it that you had unprotected sex which is why I can't say that it is only from the clipper. I'd like to say it was the clipper because it looks like razor burn to me.

I'd very much like to put your mind at ease but I am taking the risk of being wrong because 1) I'm not a dr and 2) I'm not there to see it in person.

There seems to be no hard fast rule about herpes infections and it seems everyone has a unique experience with their first outbreak.

When did those little pimples show up? The day after you shaved - would be consistent with razor burn. Was it two days or more after you had sex and accompanied by itching then maybe not the razor?

Like I said I'd really like to ease your mind because my instinct says you're okay - but if you cut back on the shaving and those pimples get worse and they start to look like fluid filled blisters and they are painful you might be in trouble.

For now until you get back home - keep a diary of when you had sex and when you shaved, what symptoms you have, how long they take to heal. I'd go to planned parenthood or similar for herpes specific testing.

try to be calm you can't be sure yet and stress never helps.

Answer:
could be herpes...my first outbreak looked very similar (like an ingrown hair from shaving) only thing is, when it "opened" it was painful.

somehow, someway, you should get to a health clinic, planned parenthood, something. It is the only way to be for sure AND to ease your mind.

Chances are it IS just a razor burn/ingrown hair thing....but I am not one for taking chances....so.......

Answer:
my "outbreaks" are only in the hair exactly where you have the bumps and mine look exactlt like that....razor burn/rash like. I do however think the bumps are probably razor burn but just to be safe get a test. Also when the doc. looks and sees the bumps they will most likely say razor burn but dont accept their answer if they say "it doesnt look like herpes" happened to me and good thing I showed the bumps to my nurse practitioner who gave me a herpes specific blood test "just in case" and turns out it was HSV2....glad I was more persistent. Good luck, probably razor burn but either way ask for a herpes specific blood test to be sure.

Answer:
thanks for all the responses...

these lil "blister" type things are still there and nothing is really happening. If it were in fact herpes... when do these things usually begin to "break" and turn into a sore? I tried popping one but the only thing that happened was that it started to bleed. No pain or uncomfort though whatsoever...

they showed up maybe like 3-4 days after i shaved. The last time i had unprotected sex and any sex whatsoever was a month ago...

i am starting to get worried since I have never had razor burn like this before and they look more like blisters then pimples since they dont just "pop" easily. Am i over worrying myself, or is this like a sure sign of an hsv infection?

Also, could you get a cold sore in your mouth from having genital herpes out of curiosity? I sometimes get these and was just wondering if they can kinda go hand in hand...

Answer:
hsv1 is commonly called a coldsore when it is in or around your mouth and can be transferred to genitals. It is still the same virus in both locations.

If you have an active coldsore you can transmit it to someone genitally through oral sex and vice versa. hsv2 is commonly considered genital herpes and can be transmitted the same way to either location.

If you have little blisters they may stay just little blisters. This doesn't mean that they aren't contagious. In other words we all have differing symptoms and it's difficult to predict what is going on with you if it is herpes.

You really need to see a dr when you can and get tested and then perhaps tested again in say 10-12 weeks to find out for sure.
