How is herpes spread to the anus? Do most people with genital herpes get "itchy anus"?

Yes it seems to be quite common in people afflicted with genital herpes infections. I believe it has to do with the area of the nervous system where this virus likes to reside.

I never had that happen until I got a very bad case of the stomach flu and when it was over I found that the virus attacked those tender tissues. I don't think it had anything to do with me spreading it to myself. I would guess that it is because there are huge numbers of nerves there and because everything got massively inflamed it had easy access via the nervous system.

I wonder about other people?
