How long do "cuts" last?

Question:
5 weeks after exposure there is still a small thin rash-like crease (cut?) near the opening of my penis. Do herpes "cuts" or lesions typically last that long in the same spot?

Answer:
Mine do, and I have read of other peoples lasting that long as well. Most people report that they go away in 2 weeks or under but there are many others who have the symptoms like that last longer. Another common thing that can happen in recurrent outbreaks in that form, is that they will appear to be present on the skin daily for long periods of time, and the virus is actually present all that time, but it can kind of retreat back to the nerves for a few hours or day or two and then you will still see (or feel) it there and it will appear as if it has never retreated at all due the extremely short duration it can come and go in a lot of people. People who do not have symptoms last longer than 2 weeks sometimes cant fathom how outbreaks can last longer than that but it is very possible and happens to many people very often....also some doctors will tell you it "can't be herpes...because outbreaks never last that long" but that is simply untrue and anyone who actually experiences herpes this way can reassure you of that...there are tons of people out there like this...myself included. Also, there is some evidence of outbreaks lasting that long if untreated so either way, yes it is entirely likely what you have described has been there all this time and is symptomatic of herpes...more common than you think to have such an experience. Also, keep in mind that it is and has been contagious all this time when visible and present on the skin so take precautions to protect yourself and other people. Avoiding sexual contact is very important for any outbreak, but for these type of atypical appearing and long lasting outbreaks particularly.

Answer:
Thanks BoxofRain for that explanation.

Still trying to find out how those little bastard viruses can move around so much.
