Could I have gotten herpes from my Dad?

Question:
Do you know if herpes can be transmitted genetically? My dad has simplex 1. Mom isn't infected and thus could not have transmitted it to me during pregnancy or birth. I have performed oral sex, but ulcerous sores in my mouth occurred before my first time doing that, and my one partner is uninfected. Basically, all my research suggests that I just have recurrent canker sores and that herpes is uninvolved in that I've never been in direct contact with the virus, but every time dad mentions his infection I become dubious. Can you give me any further clarification? I have twice suffered from crusty sores near the corners of my mouth that seemed to develop at first as pimples and then linger perhaps because of the incessant moisture there, but the fact that they vaguely resembled cold sores adds to my disconcertion. Help?

Answer:
Jay,

From what I have read herpes can't be passed genetically. It can only be passed from touching infected skin.

Answer:
Jay dont worry man.. You worry way too much... You cant get it genetically... SKIN to SKIN CONTACT ONLY... 50 - 80% of the general population have HSV-1 the virus that causes cold sores... You probably already have it...
