Question:
Last night after fooling around, we realized that my hubby has a cold sore on his lip. We had oral sex. Is there anything I can do now to prevent getting herpes, or do we just have to hope that i didnt get it?
I am 39 weeks pregnant as well, should i call my dr asap, or mention it at my next appoint (next week).... please help!

Answer:
I wish I had the right answer for you. There is a big ? as you may or may not have hsv now.

Yes, you should talk to your dr right away. If you happen to have contracted it from this event there are things you can do to lessen ob's and to prevent problems when it is time for the baby to arrive.

At 39 weeks you may want to take antivirals as preventative - your dr will need to work this out with you. You do not want a vaginal delivery during an ob because it can be dangerous to your baby and you may want to have the dr schedule a cesarean section.

New infections don't show up on blood tests immediately because they are designed to recognize specific antibodies that may not be present in the first few days or weeks of infection. Most herpes ob's show up within 2-20 days after initial infection. Sometimes no ob occurs but mild symptoms show up such as itching, tingling, fever, flu-like symptoms, painful urination etc. I am so sorry this is really awful to consider.

We'll keep positive thoughts for you that you aren't infected. But I think you should let your dr. know your concerns right away because of how far along you are in your pregnancy.
