How likely is a false positive?

Question:
I have no symptoms and neither does my wife of several years. She has tested negative and my blood work came back positive. I only got the test done because my doctor recommended it during a routine physical.
I have been falsely diagnosed with another STD in the past.

Answer:
well there really isnt a percentage, since hsv test are more likly to be false neg. then false pos.

the only thing you really can do, is take the test over, and over, and over again.
and pretty much, if they all come back pos- youve got it. if some come back neg/pos> then i would advice you to take the "western blot" test.

Answer:
Thanks for the reply.

Answer:
Some other information about my condition. I have got frequent and severe cold sores / canker sores in my mouth since I was a child. I have some decent scaring on my tongue from childhood sores. I had a sore in mymouth when I was given the test.

As I posted earlier I was positive for HSV2.

Also as far back as 1992 I saw two different doctors for infections on my genitals that were single pimples. I did then and still do alot of running. Both doctors told me this was from friction. I still occasionally get these but it is acompanied by obvious chaffing immediatly after running. I run about 10 miles a week.

Any other comments would be appreciated.

Answer:
exercise can be a trigger for outbreaks, especially running, biking, anything that causes friction, even sex.

its very possible that your coldsores, got transfered to your genitals. thats why you only have hsv2, its the same in both places. instead of hsv1, and 2 coming back post. on your test.

and yes you can have hsv2, in your mouth/coldsores.

single pimples, cuts, tiny red dots, clear fluid filled bumps etc etc etc, these and MANY more, are the outbreak itself. people vary, as well as what their outbreaks will look like.
