Herpes or an external yeast infection

Question:
Hi all,

About a month ago, I had sex with a new partner. At the time, I had a mild yeast infection; I suffer frequent/chronic yeast infections. So I thought nothing of the itching and white discharge that I had in the few days afterwards.

But then, a week later, it started to burn. I could not believe how much pain I was in, I never had pain like that before. It felt like someone was holding a lit torch between my legs. The area was a little red, but the discharge stopped completely, and I had no rashes or sores. I went to the health clinic at my university (I'm a student with no health insurance), and they did a gyno exam. She didn't see anything under a microscope from the swab she took, no yeast or bacteria. So I made an appointment with the local health clinic for STD testing. My appointment wasn't for another week, that was the soonest they could get me in.

The day of my appointment arrived, and lo and behold I got my damn period just a few hours before the appointment. So I had to reschedule. Meanwhile, I talked to the health care providers at school, who said my Pap smear came back normal. She suggested I might have an external yeast infection, since I was still in pain. They gave me an anti-fungal/steroid cream, and I made sure to have a blood test for herpes (HSV-2). The test came back negative, but I now know my body hasn't had time to produce antibodies.

When I had my period, the burning subsided quite a bit. When it ended, it came back, but not as bad. I hadn't started using the fungal cream, because I wanted the STD clinic to be able to evaluate my symptoms.

Yesterday I finally had my appointment with the local STD clinic. I still had the burning sensation, and again, the swab showed no yeast or bacteria under a microscope. They also suggested an external yeast infection. Meanwhile, I'm still experiencing the burning sensation - nearly 3 weeks of it now. I finally put that cream on, and I now have a rash. I think that may be from the cream itself, but I can't be sure.

The waiting game sure isn't fun - I plan to have another herpes blood test done 8 weeks from now, for a total of 12 weeks from my last sexual encounter.

So any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading! :)

Answer:
make sure they do type 1 and 2.
since they are interchangeable you can have type one genitaly, even though the medical people will say no.

if it is a yeast infection, drink PLENTY of water, if you dilute your urine inside you- the acid wont make it burn so much.

go get some acidophilus/ Probiotics - you can get them at any drug store in the vitamin alise.
" Acidophilus is antagonistic to Candida and other yeasts. Acidophilus is also toxic to Gardenerella, a common cause of vaginal bacterial infection.

A vaginal douche twice a day with a solution containing acidophilus is indicated if you have any kind of vaginal infection, especially a yeast infection. Even if you do not douche, just consuming acidophilus will help to some extent. ""

Answer:
Thanks, WaxedWrong. I did consider, after the fact, that I need to be tested for types 1 and 2.

I didn't mention, that I have the burning sensation all of the time, but urinating actually helps relieve it.

I've got some probiotics in my cupboard, I'm going to take some now! :)

Answer:
Has anyone even heard of an external yeast infection? I never have, and Google has been of little help.

As far as I know, the symptoms I'm experiencing are vague enough that it could be nearly anything. But I forgot to add that I've had shooting pains in my genitalia, buttox, and legs, which I've read can be from herpes.

I'm hoping for relief soon, I hate taking OTC painkillers. I'm not sure what's worse, the pain or the damage to my liver and kidneys. :(
