Flipping out.
Question: I am completely flipping. Waiting another 4 or 5 weeks for a blood test is seriously taking a toll on my well-being right now, and all signs point to Herpes as far as symptoms. Like two months ago, I had kind of an ongoing casual relationship with one girl. I had had one other sexual partner (intercourse); she had had a good few. In any event, a little over a week after our last hookup, I started itching like mad on the right side of my penis under the foreskin. Two days later a little slivery kind of sore popped up and likewise itched like crazy, and during this whole time I had a very slight burning sensation with urination. I had another round sore towards the base of my penis but it was less itchy by far and possibly caused by shaving. All symptoms were gone within maybe a little over a week, but that week was up there for the worst of my life. Anyway, within three days of the first sore's appearance, I had a swab culture, and the one toward the base was tested as well. The culture came back negative, but I'm going to do a blood test before I have an anxiety attack about this. I would like nothing more than to have this test come back negative, but waiting is tearing me up and I feel like if I go early and get a false negative or something I'll be stressed about this forever. I just don't even know. My only holdout is that she showed some symptoms of a yeast infection at one point (dry vagina, slight bleeding), the fact that she "didn't think" she had an STD (which means pretty much nothing, as she could just be an asymptomatic carrier), the fact that I noticed an increase of smegma toward the end of the potential outbreak, and the negative on the culture test (which apparently is a very frequent result and the sore was barely visible). I also have a slight scar where the red mark was. I'm trying my best not to lose it about this but I'm making myself physically sick, and the wait is killing me. If I'm positive, I'm really worried about my reaction. It all seems so goddamn unfair to me, especially given assorted other circumstances. Anyway, while I'm sure this sounds like herpes, what can I do to make the next 5 weeks not completely suck? Answer: bleeding? mmmmmm no. thats not a "symptom" maybe a result from scratching. i just wouldnt put my member(vs. letting a member in ) in a chick thats bleeding, might have gotten more then just herpes from that, especially if she thinks' shes clean. oh woops sorry didnt know i have aids. well herpes wont kill you so when you flip out and think your life is over, and you want to kill yourself - ITS OK. its something that will pass, sure you have to inform every sexual partner from here on out, but what that takes like a few seconds and they can decide for themselves if they want to continue on or not. its unfair for everyone, but you cant change what happened, you can only better yourself. try and relax, making yourself stress over this might cause you more outbreaks. Answer: Well, I didn't notice any bleeding. She had just claimed this had happened before. Whatever. Does it make a huge difference in test results if I go in at 10 weeks instead of 12...? I tend to have a strong immune system. I just want to know as soon as possible so I can have done and quit worrying. Answer: you can go before, anytime during your outbreak and after, before 12 weeks. the longer you wait especially if you have a "strong" immune system you might get rid of the antibodies quicker then most. so if you get a few test in the 3 month period you can pretty much figure out if you have it or not. i would say go closer to when you had the outbreak, personal i waited a while after my ob to get tested, not my choice just never got tested- after that i had 3 negative results, it took 8 months to get a positive. so you dont want to wait until every single trace of the virus is gone. Answer: Most sources say to wait 12 to 16 weeks post exposure. Some people don't get a positive result for 6 months, and some never do even though they are infected. I would just wait until 16 weeks if I were you. There is a 99.9% chance I have HSV but my tests at 3, 6, and 9 weeks were all negative. I have surrendered to having HSV, so when I do get my positive test result it's not going to be as much of a shock. I have another 3 weeks to wait but like WaxedWrong said, even that test might be a false negative. Herpes - the gift that keeps on giving. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
