HSV 1 and Kissing
Question: does having HSV 1 mean that I can't be kissed unless the other person has HSV 1? I am taking Valtrex daily, and will take two whenever I have any outbreaks of HSV 1 or HSV 2. It has been so long since I had a cold sore that I don't remember the last time I had one. I know I have had them, but it just has been a very long time. That is before I found out from the doctor that I have HSV 1 and HSV 2. I haven't had any outbreaks since I found out. So I think I have had this a long time without knowing it. Is there any way to to keep someone that hasn't had HSV 1 from getting it and still be able to kiss? I can't imagine never being able to kiss again. With taking Valtrex daily and not kissing when I have a cold sore, would it be enough to protect against someone else getting HSV 1 orally? Thank you. Angel Answer: Even with the precautions you stated (meds and abstaining from kissing when visible symptoms) it is still always a risk and there is no guarantee.......so very important to inform people. The virus sheds without symptoms from BOTH locations without any symptoms being present and this is how the majority of people get it.....when their partner was asymptomatic at the time. So even though you havent had a cold sore in a really long time...you still have been shedding the virus orally at random times and it is always some risk of getting it from kissing or if you perform oral sex on someone else, regardless if no coldsore is present and hasnt been for a while. Hope this helps clarify a little. .....prob. not the answer you want to hear but its the truth. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
