confused, guilty and i don't have symptoms

Question:
I had a vague knowledge about std's before and now, i'm some where in between totally freaked out and scared for my boyfriend. The story goes like this, he's really nice, great friends, sporty and honest. We've been seeing each other for over 6 months now and first had sex about 4 weeks into the relationship. Iv'e never had any symptoms of anything and always had protected sex. Two days after our first sexual experience together my boyfriend seemed distant and quiet and i had to pull out of him what was wrong. He asked me if it was possible he could have caught anything off me. My first reaction was no way, I'd always had protected sex in the past. His symptoms were itching, pain, fatigue and head aches and recently he noticed a very faint rash although almost invisible. He has never experienced any blistering, lumps , sores or lesions. His first appointment at the clinic he was cleared of everything, but his symptoms continued with the fatigue getting worse. Feeling really bad and really guilty that maybe I could have passed something onto him i went to the clinic too and discussed his concerns about herpes, but was more or less told to tell my boyfriend to lighten up and was told I didn't have anything. Since then things haven't gotten any better, he's more depressed than I've ever seen him before and it's affecting his friendships and his sporting life. He went back to the clinic a couple of weeks ago to discuss more in depth his concerns but didn't get very far with anymore info. I've still had no symptoms and don't even get cold sores, he does and i don't know what to do any more. He's depressed about everything cause his health is badly effected and hasn't been himself for months. And I can't help. Is this herpes like he says? or could it be something else? any time we try and find out anything we keep coming up with blank answers. has anyone ever had any experiences like this cause I still believe that i don't have herpes although I know symptoms aren't always apparent in everyone? If anyone could help me find out anything as to what it could be I'd be forever grateful.
