I Think i have herpes... I haven't gotten it checked by the doctor yet. mainly out of disbelief. I am a vifgin and i cant believe it could happen to me. I've had girls try to hop in bed with me since i was 16 and after 4 years of fighting myself i think 1 single oral encounter passed the virus.. Its the most upsetting thing i've ever had to deal with. Talk about the whole "its not fair" rant..

The problem i'm having is I still cant bring myself to go to a doctor. The incident happened 6 months ago.. I dated a girl for about a month and she gave me oral sex which i even stopped after 10-15 seconds because i wasn't sure we would work out... A month later after i broke up with her she had a cold sore outbreak on her face. And at the time, i had no outbreaks although she did give me a bad case of mono.....why now?

What makes you think you now have HSV? Have you had any symptoms? Have you had an outbreak?

For your own peace of mind and sanity you owe it to yourself to go and get some std testing done. Procrastinating about something as important as your health isn't what I'd recommend you to do when you can simply go to a clinic and ask for the appropriate testing and know the truth.

btw mononeucleosis is a virus in the herpes family. though it is different than herpes simplex.

Is there a reason you can't make yourself go to the dr and get checked out? It has been 6 months. what do you need to hear to convince you to go and see the dr?

well i feel fatigue, i have 2 odd shaped bumps on the under side of my penal shaft, that have been there for about 3 weeks now, no pain or blistering, i've been looking at a LOT of info and facts the last 2 weeks, and i really think i had to of contracted it. Most of the information said my initial outbreak would be the worse but as i said at that time i if there was an outbreak it was way to small to notice. And i don't understand how i could of gotten it so quickly yet not gotten oral herpes from kissing.

I really want to go to the doctor, one of the main things i'm scared of is I am still under my parents insurance and i really dont want to call them or show up at thier house to tell them why i went to the doctor. Maybe i just need some support cause this is something i'm not even going to begin to think about telling my friends.

There are other options than going to your doctor.

Check out the clinics in your area. Or if you are in college, the campus medical center.

One way to look at it is that you've been freaking out for 2 weeks, when you could have just had it checked and maybe just have been done with it in a few days.

It's scary to go and get a test, but the scariness will be over once it's done. Your other choice is to remain scared, never know and always wonder the rest of your life. Seems like rather than all that, a test is minor thing to do.

One last thought. You either have it or you don't. Accept that and then take responsibility for yourself and just get tested.

Go to Planned Parenthood or an STD clinic and just pay with cash. It cost me less than $100 to get full standard STD screening plus HSV. Standard STD screenings don't test for herpes so you need to ask for a specific herpes test. Get the ELISA Herpeselect type specific IgG.

One good thing in your case is that it's been 6 months so a blood test should be accurate now and you don't have to wait any longer for antibodies to develop.

Honestly though, it sounds like you might not have HSV.

You need to get tested though.
