HELP!! Results are back ... One test is positive but the other is negative?? WHY???
Question: Hey everyone! I just got my results back for hsv. On June 9th I went to Planned Parenthood and got a full blood work done along with type specific HSV testing ... HerpeSelect test. 5 days later, I went to my doctor to get the same tests done, without getting my results back from the one taken at Planned Parenthood. Anyways, on June 19th, my results came back negative from Planned Parenthood which show an EIA value of .15 for both HSV 1 and 2, which is below the .90 to test positive. HOWEVER, on June 27th, my results came back from my doctors lab and it says, .... "Low level antibody detected by Western Blot Assay. Indeterminate for HSV ... Atypical reactivity was noted against proteins on the HSV-1 Western Blot" What do I do? Do I have Herpes? I'm freaking out over here. I have NO cold sores or anything like that. Please help me!!!!! Thank you, Chris Answer: you probably dont have it, but get retested again by your doctor the same way in 6 weeks and see if anything is different then. but also keep in mind that because it says a slight reactivity to type 1, and not type 2.......then you know you did not get anything from the contact with the girl who has type 2 genital herpes. so at least that part is squared away. Answer: Thats a very good point! I would have tested positive for HSV-2 if it was from her ... So you don't think I have it???? I mean, I have been just going nuts over here ever since I got the result back yesterday. Am I contagious if i dont have any sores on my lips? Is it ok to kiss my new girlfriend? Answer: nice, you got a western blot- def get tested again, your antibodies prob disappeared as i rem its been quite a while since you posted. and if nothing has happened since then, its a good chance your levels droped to the neg. What does this mean? Do I have herpes? :( Answer: "Low level antibody detected by Western Blot Assay. Indeterminate for HSV ... Atypical reactivity was noted against proteins on the HSV-1 Western Blot" thats what your test said- LOW LEVEL ANTIBODY DETECTED -LOW LEVEL= there was a trace amount of the herpes antibody detected in your body. anitbodies arent life long, they get made during outbreaks, and die/disappear. just like if you left water in a cup for a while, eventually it would just evaporate and there would just be the cup. and until something happens, to get more water in the cup- it will sit there empty. what happened to you was nearly 2 months ago- thats enought time for your body to get rid of the antibody especially if you experienced a very small outbreak, or no outbreak- which you had a rash if anything- also, do you know if that girl has type 2? or are you just assuming so since she had it genitaly? Answer: I am so scared and confused right now. Answer: It is confusing. I'd wait and test again. The good news is that you don't have hsv2. I can't remember the details but it sounds like you may have been exposed to hsv 1 and it may be very mild or almost non-existant at least your test is showing that it is very suppressed by your immune system. the thing is if everyone actually went and got tested probably everyone has been exposed to hsv 1. Answer: I have an appointment tomorrow with the same doctor ... should I ask to get tested again? Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
