Does Valtrex work?
Question: OK, so I am one of those 'millions of people' affected by this virus. i just recently had my first outbreak this last week. i could go in to the emotions i am feeling right now, but it just gets me in to a deeper depression. i have been researching like a mad woman, looking up statistics, testimonials, studies, etc on HSV2. I will be finishing up my acyclovir treatment today and start my suppressant valtrex tomorrow. i am also, for the sake of paranoia, taking lysine and vitamins as a precautionary treatment. i don't want to ever get an outbreak again. the depression and desperation i have this first time around is absolutely excruciating. what i am wondering is why does valtrex work for some people and not others? i read on their site that 47% of people who used Valtrex didn't get an outbreak for that 8 month study period. I have also read things on H-Balm, lysine, etc. I am scared to ask people on here what has worked best for them, as i am sure i will get varying amounts of responses. but i am willing to see if there is an answer out there for me. something that will help me feel confident that i won't get an outbreak again. i have read about people who hadn't had an outbreak again for almost ten years. i want that to me me. anyone that can offer me some peace? Answer: scareddepressed25, I understand how you feel about not wanting to have another ob and wanting someone to assure you that it won't ever happen again....I went through the same thing a few weeks ago. I can tell my side.....my hubby and I just found out Friday that we BOTH test positive for HSV 2 after I had my first ob 3 weeks ago. We've been married and faithful for 8 years, neither of us had any symptoms until I broke out recently. We had no clue. So, if it can lay dormant in TWO people for at least 8 years (we'll never know who gave it to whom), I think there is a good possibilty that there will be no more ob's as long as I'm prudent about supplements, rest, etc... BUT, there are no guarantees. I choose not to live every day of my life anymore being a slave to this virus--especially when I'm not having any symptoms. I choose to assume that health will be the norm, and I won't worry about herpes until I have to. The docs won't even put me on daily suppressive because they said I had a mild first ob to begin with (mild, my ass), it was my only one in 8 years of being exposed, and hubby is positive anyway--probably same strain. What you need to try to do is relax. Just relax. You've done your research, you know what to expect, but get on with life and put this virus on the back burner until it NEEDS to be thought about. Keep taking the supplements, too. Answer: If my doc. went ahead and gave me some samples of Valtrex should I go ahead and start taking them if I am not sure I've had an ob??? Does anyone know if I take Valtrex when I am having an ob, will it help it go away quicker? thanks! Answer: If you are having an ob Valtrex should help it to go away. Answer: i am on valtrex right now.. i just started... im sure hoping it will work for me:S Answer: I just learned I had herpes this week when I got a horrible outbreak. The pain has been so severe and uncomfortable, like nothing I've ever experienced. I started Valtrex 3 days ago and so far I haven't gotten much relief, does anyone know how long it generally takes to start working? -A Answer: valtrex worked really well for me but i can't really afford it a one month supply with my insurance costs me $70.00 so i did my one month supply and decided that i would try acyclovir since its much more affordable. it only costs me $5.00 with my insurance but since i've stopped taking valtrex and started taking acyclovir i've had a couple outbreaks nothing serious though, i didn't have any sores show up just the tingly sensation and the leg and lower back pain. so i've decided that i'm just going to stop taking it and let my immune system build up its own defense but if i end up with any sores i'm going to break down buy some more valtrex and just take it during outbreaks instead of using it as suppresive therapy. i don't want to go through what i went through with my first outbreak ever again. i had about 40 open sores and had the flu like symptoms and any ot her symptom that you can relate to hsv. so far i've only had lower backpain since i've stopped taking anything and it went away after a couple days.
