Question:
Hey all,
last week I thought I had herpes and I went to the doc and he did an IGG for early infection and it came all negative, I had a rash on my buttocks,,,the doc said it might be shingles...and he said I'll never have it ever again,,,and I was taking acyclovir or however you spell it,,and I finished my med about a couple days ago and since yesterday I'm having the same itch and tingly feeling again...and I'm gonna call my doc soon....do u guys think it was herpes and if it was I can have another ob so soon?

Answer:
Hey there -

Honey - an IgG will only detect the virus if it's been in your system for at least 6 weeks - are you sure your doctor didn't do an IgM test on you for it?? If it's a first time infection and it's been less than 6 weeks, that's what you would need to get to confirm if it's herpes or not...

Answer:
yeah I looked again and he did an IGM ..which came out negative,,,is there chances I still might be infected?

Answer:
The IgG shows antibodies you've developed against hsv specifically the IgM result shows a general antibody reaction to an unknown pathogen like hsv.

I don't understand your dr saying you had shingles and would never get it again. It is from the same virus that causes chicken pox and everything I've read says it can come and go with stress and a compromised immune system.

Acyclovir is an antiviral that would help stop an ob of shingles and hsv.

I don't know if you have herpes. I can't test you. I do recommend that you get tested again. The recommended time for blood testing is 8-16 after exposure or if having an active ob, getting a swab cultured.

Yes if it is herpes it could act up again. Usually during the 12 months immediately after exposure ob's can be frequent.

Answer:
well my doctor didn't tell me on spot that it's shingles he said it might be herpes and then he called after a few days and said that my IGM came out negative and I asked why did I have rashes he said it might be shingles...and couple of days ago I was itching at the same exact place where I was itching before I had shingles/herpes ob...and now I'm noticing on my penis there's small tiny red spots but it looks like they can develop in cuts,,,,,,is there any way my IGM tests results were messed up? and I really do have herpes and I infected myself at other places of my body?
