I think its herpes, my friend doesnt

Question:
About 3 weeks ago, I had unprotected sex. About 5 days later, I got this painful "bite" on my butt cheek. I just thought it was a bug bite because it itched. I kept applying anti-itch cream to it, it just became more painful and more painful. I almost couldnt even sit down it hurt so bad. It popped and then left a "bruise" looking mark on my butt cheek. Then I got another one in the same spot on the opposite cheek. Now I have like 6 or 7 of these blister-like things on both of my butt cheeks, and they are in like the identical spots on either cheek--almost like a butterflies wings. They are VERY painful and once they pop, they leave a bruise-like mark on my cheek. I am terrified that I have herpes. I showed them to one of my friends, and she doesnt think that is what it is. None of them have ever turned into open lesions that are muscus like, like many pictures I have seen of herpes. I have none of these blister like things on my vagina. Only on my buttocks. I have no fever, neausa, etc with them. I am scared to call the dr and go for an appt, because I am terrified that it is herpes, and I do not know how I could live with it. Any ideas from anyone?

Answer:
Hey there whyme,

I hope you don't have herpes...But what you've described sounds a lot like my first outbreak.
I had what I thought was a mosquito bite on my butt cheek. It itched like crazy but was never painful there. I've had little dots close to that location since that are tingly but not itchy or painful. Anyway, I went to the doctor with the one I thought was the mosquito bite and just from looking she said she thought it was herpes...The swab test showed it was for sure. Before that I had no idea you could even get herpes on your butt.

For your peace of mind it would be good to have it checked out. It really is better spending your energy getting used to the fact you have hsv than to worry yourself sick wondering if you do have it. Not to mention you can then protect yourself and others if that is what you have.

Good luck

Also...these blisters are not in a cluster..they are each an inch or two (if not more) away from each other...

Answer:
doesnt matter where they are, how far apart, how close, fluid or none..........could be herpes and its best to get checked asap. Also, because you are waiting, you may very well get a false negative if the area is swabbed because enough virus might not be left on the surface of the skin to get a positive reading. Also, as far as blood work goes, if at first you get a negative then go back in 6 weeks for a retest, as it sometimes takes a while for the antibodies to show up. Be sure not to just take the first negative result and run with it, as tempting as it is, because then you will not know the truth and can then go around infecting others because you didnt retest to be sure. I hope its not but it sounds a lot like it could be. Also, over half of all peope with herpes never get typical looking symptoms.......ive had it for 2 years and have never once had a blister or anything like one. Its more common to have different variations or no visible symptoms than it is to have classic textbook symptoms, or anything similar to what they post on websites, which are always the worst case scenarios. So dont use those resources as a way to rule out anything. Good luck, please get tested...........it is better to know than to worry for the rest of your days until you find out for sure, plus you will not infect people "accidently" if you do find out what is going on soon. I recommend getting tested via herpes type specific blood testing and repeating the test a few times if negative the first few times to be sure, herpes is tricky and doesnt always show up right away, though it is in the body already.

Answer:
Thank you to both Shayna and Boxofrain. My friend said she will go with me, its just making the phone call to set up the appt that is scaring the shit out of me. I am going to do it SOON...dont worry!! Thanks for the advice and support!! I pray all the time that it is not herpes!!

Answer:
The above noters are right. It is better to know than to wonder. I've spent two months wondering and its eating me alive. I've shed like 15 pounds and, believe me, I didn't have it to spare. I got myself swab tested in June and it came back negative but I think it was a false negative. I just got the blood test last week and I am still waiting for the results and its killing me, the waiting. At this point I just want to know if I have the damn disease or not.

If you are worried about going to your own doctor just go to planned parenthood. They are used to seeing people for this type of stuff all the time.

When I read your post, I thought about myself. I used to get bumps on my butt and I too thought they were insect bites. As a matter of fact, I told my friend I thought I had bugs in my bed or something because I kept on getting these mysterious bite marks on me. I would get them and they would itch, then they would go away, but they would leave a mark in the area in which they were located. Until I was diagnosed with HSV2, I thought they were mosquito bites, but now I know they must have been symptoms of herpes. It is important for you to get tested. That is the only way you will be able to know if you have it or not. Keep us posted on your results. I wish you the best!:)

Answer:
I haven't made an appt yet, but I did some researching last night, I am now thinking that it isnt herpes, that I am allergic to Gluten and it is causing blisters on my buttocks. What I believe that I have is Dermatitis Herpetiformis. Not sure if anyone has heard of this, but when I read it, and compare it to waht I have, I think that it is a possibility. I think I am going to call a Dr. tomorrow and make an appt. Both herpes and Dermatitis Herpetiformis explain it close to the same way, and that the rash appears differently on everyone. The reason that I am leaning towards Dermatitis Herpetiformis is because for the past 4 weeks, I have drank a lot beer almost everday, and I also recently started working at a pizza place and have been eating a lot of pizza, both having lots of gluten, which would increase the chance of the first allergic reaction. Any ideas or anyone ever heard of it?

Answer:
Both beer and pizza would also be very high arginine and could cause an ob.
