Getting off of Valtrex
Question: Ok, so I have only been on suppressive Valtrex for a month, and it has helped tremendously (i.e.no outbreak at all). I got on it immediately after i found out i had herpes so i don't know how my body would react normally to this virus if i hadn't used suppressive medication. so my question is, if i get off of this and see how my body is, also continue to take lysine and vitamins, what are the chances i would break out? i have read posts on here from people who once they get off of valtrex they break out. can anyone that has been on valtrex and DID NOT get an OB immediately? please, for those who break out like crazy afterwards, i don't want to hear the negative experiences. no offense, but every time i see a positive and helpful post from someone, there are two more posts to follow that talk about the negative aspect of it. it gets disheartening after awhile. i know every body is different and reacts differently to this virus. i know that i can't get an "official" answer. what i am wondering is, if there are people out there who stopped using valtrex and didnt get many of gettting reoccurences within days or even months of getting off of suppressive meds. thanks for your help! Answer: i think no matter what others responses are... whether they immediately started OB hell or they were just fine... the only way to tell is to see what happens with you, which is not the response you want... but there really are no answers! I think one of the purell people went off suppressive therapy and went without an OB for a while - and imo that was probably due to their OB cycle rather than purell - i personally think the purell seems more likely to help treat lesions by helping them dry up faster rather than suppress... anyway you might want to check out those threads. You could always go off, and even if an OB occurs immediately don't jump to conclusions right away; it could be just bad luck with timing - you could do the OB treatment (usu 500mg 2x daily for 3 days, some docs do 5 days) to minimize the OB. Then, wait to see how long it takes before the next OB. Some people don't get H that bad and just treating OBs might be the way to go - along with the healthy lifestyle. If you do go the OB only route, you can still get your script written for suppressive treatment - if you have health insurance your copay will be the same for suppressive (usu 30x 500mg pills) as for OB treatment (usu 6x 500mg pills), plus there is a coupon on the Valtrex website for 30x pill scripts (you can use the coupon to lower your copay). Wow thats great.. Yeah Valtrex is a great breakthrough in herpes advencement in the next 10 years they will prolly have it fixed. Also there are storys about them actully using the hsv virus for battling other dieases but thats very premature but still good to know. Answer: I've been on Valtrex for two and a half months now....and have no intention of stopping treatment,no OBs....no sex either, but at least I don't have obs.... I guess as long as I have two good hands I don't have too much to worry about...........but I do miss the physical contact and affection of a woman in my life....Oh the touch and feel of a woman, her smell, soft skin, curves of her body....DAM now I need a cold shower! LOL. Answer: You will have a woman back sooner or later and if things upset you that much there are herpes dating services. Having herpes don't mean you can't have sex just means you have to take your time to actully get in a relationship like im doing with my girlfriend now before you risk it cause its very contagious and there is no 100% promise you won't get it. Sometimes you can get it and not even know it till you have sex with a new person then they outbreak. Yeah im glad to hear you say that you can still masturbate I was worryed about that I guess you can't during a outbreak obviously but good to know im not gonna spread shedding wise to my hand as long as I wash it. Answer: As thiscan'tbe said, you probably wont like this answer either. But I think an important part of learning to accept this condition is dealing with the outbreaks. You probably remember your first outbreak as horrible, both physically and mentally. It will never be a picnic, but the more of them you go through, the less of a deal it is. Jaded, jaded, jaded! That's the only word I can use to describe it. On the other hand, if you're truly worried about it, what's your rush in going off valtrex? Yeah, you may eventually find that it wasn't necessary for your body physically, but if it's helping you cope mentally I say don't rush yourself. In any case, don't stress! On the bright side, you know that valtrex works for you; you can always go back to it :) Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
