HSV2 and oral sex ?

Question:
I have tested positive for HSV1 and HSV2. My partner is positive for HSV1 only. My question is If i give her oral sex can she contract HSV2 from me ? also what 'other' things can we do without her being worried about getting HSV2 from me ? Thanks !

Answer:
Probably... you have hsv2 genitally and hsv1 orally.

That means if she has any contact with your genitals (anywhere in the boxer short region, front and back), she could catch the hsv2.... with her genitals from "regular" sex or even she can get hsv2 orally if she gives you oral sex. Supposedly oral HSV2 is rare but it does happen.

If you kiss her genitals you could spread hsv1 to her genitals (but probably not the hsv2, cause again, that is most likely located in your genitals not your mouth), even if you don't have a cold sore present. That doesn't happen super often but many on these boards can attest that you can catch genital hsv1 thru oral sex with an asymptomatic partner.

Other than using good sense (no contact while having an outbreak or prodromal symptoms) condoms and dental dams can reduce transmission but not completely. You also can consider suppressive therapy.

Answer:
The Best advice anyone can give is to ask your doctor or a very informed person from here that can give you the correct answer that you are looking for.

Answer:
Does that mean if I use suppresive therapy that I can have oral sex with my partner? or regular sex?

Answer:
it will ALWAYS be a risk for her to get type 2 from you no matter how many precautions you try and take. Suppressive therapy MIGHT help lessen the shedding of the virus but cannot fully protect your g/f or anyone else from contracting the virus from you.
