No Signs for 2 1/2 years?
Question: I could use some help/advise. Two and 1/2 years ago I had my first outbreak which I had the doctor test and I was told it was herpes-2. I was prescribed some cream, and then somehow that week I was told I could have them "frozen" off at a determologist which is much better then the creams and stuff. So I went to the determologist and did just that, had them frozen off. I asked the doctor at that time if they would come back and if I would have to keep coming back here to have them frozen off, and he said something like 'oh they won't come back'. Then I also had my doctor put me on Valtrex (generic) just in case, and since then I have not had any signs that I have Herpes-2. That was almost 3 years ago... So I guess I'm a little confused. Am I just lucky that I have not had an outbreak in 2 1/2 years? Should I get a blood test done to make sure I actually have it? I guess any advise would be great. Answer: if you tested positive for it once then you have it for life...simple. You might just not get visible outbreaks, but some of the time you are still shedding the virus unknowingly, when it is acitve on the skin without symptoms but we can never know when this is happening. So, yes, you still have herpes, can still give it to others and still need to be very careful and inform anyone you might be intimate with of your status. It is common for some to have outbreaks very infrequently ......months and years apart but the virus is still very much present in the body. Also, are you sure you didnt have genital warts (HPV) and had those frozen off? that is a common procedure for genital warts, not herpes lesions. Maybe you have both, or had the warts and then through std testing they saw you tested positive for herpes type 2 as well and gave you Valtrex based on that. Just seems a little strange to me. Answer: That sounds odd to me too. My mom had genital warts WAYYYYY back when she was a sweet young thing and had them frozen off. They don't come back afterwards as far as I know. Answer: Sounds like you were treated for genital warts. Maybe you misunderstood the diagnosis at the time. Get the blood test for herpes so you don't have to wonder or worry any longer. Answer: okay so I'll get a blood test... If I have genital warts and not herpes and had those frozed off... does that mean they are gone or is that a virus that you live with forever as well? Answer: genital warts are HPV aint they? sure they are for life aswell. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
