Possible 3+ months before first OB?

Question:
Here is my story, I dont know if this is the right section but here it goes. I recieved unprotected oral sex from a girl who I thought I knew. A little over three months later I had what looked like a herpes outbreak. The skin on my penis would be dry after sex or masterbation. I had itchy painful blisters on my penis shaft, around my anus and in the crease below my butt cheeks. I never had pain in uninating, fever or dizziness. It almost looked like poisen oak except it took longer, more than a week before it was at its worst. That was 9 months ago. I have not had any blisters or redness since. Although my penis is sore sometimes. A general soreness. I was under the impression that herpes showed much sooner than 3 months. I know there is no way to tell if I am infected without a culture from a blister. Seeing as I havent had any symptoms again I am very frustrated. I dont like not knowing. Any ideas?

Answer:
itchy painful blisters sound a lot like herp.

some people, when they are infected, don't experience a true "initial" outbreak, but later on they can experience additional outbreaks when the virus is active again.

It's possible that you picked it up from oral sex if the girl gets cold sores and either had a sore, or happened to be shedding virus, but it is also possible that you had the herp even before that, assuming you have ever been sexually active before that.

Best thing to do is to get tested. Since you had symptoms over 9 mos ago, a blood test should be able to detect whether you have it or not. Make sure to get a type specific test (most good doctors will offer that kind now but there are still some antiquated tests out there) to find out if you have HSV1 or HSV2. If you have HSV1 oral sex is usually the way you catch it, and if you have HSV2, you most likely caught it from normal sex.

Answer:
I had my first out break 8 months after I broke up with the herpe donor.
We were together for 10 months or so (i'm trying to forget).

Anyway, I had one out break and that's been it so far.

It sounds to me like you are a member of the club here.
Herpes-r-us

Answer:
I have had it for about 3 years and no outbreak.... so I don't think that it follows any time line... it just does what it does.....

Answer:
It must be HSV1 (not that it matters) since we didnt have regular sex or come in contact with each other areas in that way. Should I go to my regular doctor for the test or a clinic. My doctor seemed to think the blood test didnt work well.

Answer:
If you have insurance you might want to go wherever you are covered... or a county type health clinic might be another viable option. It's a little disturbing that your regular doc doesn't think the tests work well; it makes me wonder if he/she is using one of the older tests. The newer tests, while not perfect, are pretty good and work for most people. Here's a link that talks about different tests, along with something you can download to educate your doc if needed!
