HSV1, I believe typically does not involve AS MUCH shedding as HSV 2, so the risk is probably less to get HSV1 from shedding.

For years growing up as a child, you see a friend with a cold sore and you hear people calling cold sores 'herpes' BUT then sake of kids 'self esteem' I think adults are quick to say/convince kids that cold sores are 'different' and kids grow up with the perception that cold sores do not present risk.. when they do...
