Blood Test?

Question:
Hi,

I have a question.,.. If you get blood work done at your doctor such as blood cout, or std testing shouldn't this test tell you if you have HSV or do you have to have a current outbreak ti reveal that you do have herpes. I was never diagnosed but have always said that I have a cold sore because the symptoms are similar and the doctor back then said they think it is a herpe. They didnt give me a test at the time. I never break out with a blister or sore.. but my lips get swollen, itch and sometimes look like very fine bumps.. IF i put alcohol on it it burns and i still use Abreva.. Basically can a test find this if you do not have an outbreak?? And will the test tell you which kind you have?

Answer:
A blood test will let you know if you have HSV even if you do not have/never have had an outbreak. The blood test will reveal if you have antibodies in your blood stream. The HSV tests are called the Ig and IgM I believe.

Answer:
the herpes blood test will test for which type you have, so if indeed what you are experiecing is a herpes outbreak, the test will either come back neg/pos for which type.

Answer:
Ok so In Feb I told my doctor to test me for everything after I broke up with a cheating man. I didn't pay attention to my test results but looking at it last night, I do see where the doctor tested me for HSV 2 and it said less than 90 index or something then that means negative.. So I guess I will have to ask for a different test for HSV1 for the oral. Should it pick up both or just one? I may have to go back to ask for another type of test. This whole thing is new to me about testing to find out. The doctor years ago must have just been lazy and didnt want to test me for it when i asked if it was a cold sore or not. That frustrates me.. I'm pretty sure it is but i just hate these outbreaks on my lips. If i can get a prescription for it then that would be better.

Thanks for your responses.
